ECW (02.19.08)

NEWS: |WWE| The following report is from WWE with full credit going to Andrew Rote…

Tuesday was a night in which experience prevailed, as the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair made a memorable appearance just one day after being named to the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame class.

By contrast with the 16-time World Champion, the gutsy Colin Delaney’s inexperience took a toll on him when he faced The Miz in one-on-one action. The last time Delaney, Tommy Dreamer, The Miz and John Morrison were all called to the ring, Dreamer emerged victorious with the hopeful Superstar in his corner. The luck changed tonight, however, when the self-proclaimed “Chick Magnet” notched a win and added insult to injury – or more injury to injury – by beating down Delaney and Dreamer with the help of his co-WWE Tag Team Champion.

Another young Superstar was in action, but had a better outing. Kofi Kingston continued his winning streak, remaining undefeated since joining the extreme brand. So far, ECW has truly been a paradise for the Jamaican competitor. After his victory, Kingston stood in the middle of the ring with Joey Styles and announced, “ECW to me is like paradise … if there’s trouble in paradise, you know Kofi Kingston is going to take care of it.”

Stevie Richards, on the other hand, is as experienced as Superstars get. The ECW Original earned his second consecutive victory since making his return to the ring following his recovery from throat surgery. Richards is once again forced to prove himself. So far, it doesn’t appear this go-around will be any different from the other times Stevie overcame adversity and succeeded.

Speaking of experience, Maria has taken advantage of a major opportunity to pose for Playboy. Kelly Kelly congratulated her on her contract and said she wouldn’t be opposed if she had the chance to pose, one day.

The night concluded with Flair adding another win to the most impressive résumé in sports-entertainment history. Alongside CM Punk, the “Nature Boy” put Shelton Benjamin & Elijah Burke in their place.

I thought this weeks show could have been a lot better. We’ve seen this show before, but in various forms.

Miz vs Colin was a new match, but did we really expect Colin to win cleanly? I would say the same thing even if he won with Dreamer’s assistance. It was just a boring match and really served no purpose. Yes, they did attack Dreamer & Colin post-match, but their heels and that’s what they do.

Kofi Kingston, another win under his belt, but it was another match which that wasn’t really a match. It felt like a dance recital more than anything else. We’ve seen this before.

Way too many RAW re-cap segments. Stop that.

I have no problem with Stevie Richards getting another win. Part of it is because I like him. Another part is I love seeing his kicks. And another part is I feel sorry for him considering all the pain he’s gone through. Yes WWE, those videos work and they reeled me in.

The opening segment was needed and ending of the show was what I enjoyed most. They needed to set up the main event and they got to it quickly. I liked that. And the main even had Burke & Benjamin involved which is something I really liked. And the main event was decent. It could have been better, but I still enjoyed it. That’s pretty much the only part I liked about ECW.

Where was Chavo Guerrero? Maybe I missed something since I didn’t see the first 2 min of ECW or No Way Out, but where was he? He’s still champ right? Shouldn’t he have come out to celebrate or say something?

I didn’t like how they had Burke tap out to Flair. Burke is awesome on the mic, great in the ring, and has charisma, and you’re going make him look weak YET AGAIN by making him tap out. If it’s not that, then we see him job to CM Punk or some random face on Smackdown. He’s shouldn’t be a jobber, he should be a main eventer. I was expecting that Burke and Shelton would just get themselves DQed, but that wasn’t the case. Stevie Richards and Kofi Kingston are underrated too and I’m sick of all the damn jobbers on ECW all the time. It’s boring and no one really cares about the damn match they’re in. The crowd becomes DEAD. I really wonder how they can stand sitting throw a sub par Smackdown Taping for 2 hours and then watch another 1 hour show with a bunch of Squash Matches and MAYBE a good Main Event.

Yeah, why the hell wasn’t Chavo on this week. Maybe he got injured at No Way Out or there’s an emergency. If that’s not the case then it doesn’t make sense that WWE wouldn’t put him on ECW when he’s the ECW Champion and he just beat him “rival” CM Punk on PPV and I don’t remember Punk even say anything about it. Did Chavo beat him clean or what?
