With all eyes on new ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero, Shelton Benjamin could be targeting Guerrero’s newly-won gold. Benjamin proved once again there ain’t no stopping him, as he was victorious in an Over-the-Top Rope Challenge on ECW, edging out fellow Royal Rumble participants. The “Gold Standard” showed his athleticism on Tuesday night, and his winning streak could continue into the 30-man game of endurance Sunday at the Rumble. Is it Benjamin’s time? Can he win the Rumble match?
Also on Tuesday, Kofi Kingston made his ECW debut. The Jamaican Superstar was victorious over a local contender, and looked ready to take care of any trouble that may arise in the Extreme paradise called ECW.
Speaking of paradise … Kelly Kelly, Layla and Lena Yada competed in a Best Body contest on Tuesday night, and the Divas looked even more perfect in HDTV. Our fans declared Kelly Kelly the winner through their cheers, but Layla and Lena weren’t pleased. Layla knocked Kelly Kelly face-first to the mat, with Lena by her side.
In other action, an injured and bandaged Colin Delaney returned to ECW for a fifth time, facing another one of sports-entertainment’s giants, The Great Khali. Delaney, who stood frozen in fear at the sight of Khali, was demolished after a vicious Vise Grip. Will the persistent Delaney have the guts to return to ECW again?
Finally, Chavo Guerrero defeated CM Punk for the ECW Championship on Tuesday, following a huge assist from Edge. The World Heavyweight Champion speared Punk before Chavo got the pin in the No Disqualification Match, as SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero looked on with delight.

First off, much better show than last week. I guess WWE is using the same set for all three shows. I’m disappointed that ECW doesn’t have the more intimate feel with a small entrance and dim lights, but as long as the show still delivers than I can’t complain too much.
Kofi Kingston, in my opinion, has a lot of potential. He already relates to the crowd, has a very unique style and reminds me a lot of Shelton Benjamin in terms of in-ring ability. This guy has a future, no question about it. The only problem was that his opponent didn’t sell at all. He made Kofi look terrible and was not animated enough. Kingston should just do the exact same match with someone else because I gaurantee it would look a lot better.
Another thing though, I wonder why WWE would have him debut the show before the Rumble. Why not give the time to building up matches or something else. But then again ECW is not on the Rumble really so I guess it’s a moot point.
The opening match was a great build up for the Rumble this Sunday. And in true ECW form, the finish was damn good and was very creative. Having Shelton hold the ropes down and Kane eliminating Miz & Morrison was a good idea already. But to then have Shelton pull Kane out by his legs was a thing of beauty. Whoever booked that match should get a gold star and if it was Dusty Rhodes than I’m not surprised. Great match even though it was short.
Colin McLaney (sp?) or whatever his name is…is hilarious. I just can’t stop laughing at this guy and everyone loves to see him get his ass kicked. I’m still laughing. And the look on his face after that video clip played was priceless. Oh one more thing, it was hilarious when Khali hit him with the chop and he just went down on his ass. I haven’t laughed this hard since seeing Gillberg on the RAW Anniversary show.
I remember reading that Kelly Kelly got breast implants. But it doesn’t look like it after tonight. And I for one am glad that she didn’t because she’s great all natural. It’s good to see Lena Yada on ECW just because she’s Asian. However I don’t see much personality from her, but it’s too early to tell I guess. She does have that classic bitchy attitude, but anyone can pull that off and it’s not enough to get you over as a heel or babyface. Can she wrestle?
I really liked that Royal Rumble video package they played which rattled off the statistics. I think it’s a perfect video to get you pumped for the Rumble. But I question why WWE would play it on their only one hour show. Or maybe it was played on RAW too and I just missed it.
I’m not too sure what to make of Chavo being champion. I’m guessing he’s going to be a transition champion, but to beat CM Punk (with a lot of help from Edge), is still strange. Punk’s title reign has not been very interesting, but then again his feuds since becoming champion have not been well crafted as his title hunt was. Once he became champion it’s like WWE quit putting effort into his storyline & character. So you can’t put the full blame on him. Either way, Punk needs the title off him but to put it on Chavo is really strange. I’m not gonna be harsh on this subject and will see where this goes, but my first impression is that I don’t like it because Chavo just swoops in and becomes champion? As for the match, I thought it was good, but the finish of seeing Edge, Chavo & everyone was just weird.
Overall, ECW was alright. Kofi Kingston, Colin and the opening match were the highlights of the show. The remainder wasn’t bad, but it was just there including the main event. The main event was entirely too short and is a departure from the usual ECW show which is a strong main event built on wrestling. What a weird show, that’s all I can say.
