This is my own personal opinion.
I personally believe that Bret Hart was in on the screw job when Vince ordered the bell to be rung in the Bret Hart VS Shawn Michaels match.
The one thing I have always said about wrestling is the camera never really stops running and the show never ends. Simply put I do not believe anything that goes on outside of the ring besides deaths.
When Shawn Michaels won the WWF@the time world title at Wrestlemania 12 against Bret. No one ever believed that Shawn would return. He started out a good guy when he was a Rocker then when he split from Marty he became the Heart Break Kid and he was hated by most. No one really started to like him counting me until he had one of the best matches I have ever seen at In your House when he defeated Double J for the IC belt. Then this story came up about how he was mugged outside of a bar and got head injuries. He was forced to give the IC belt to Dean Douglas. Everyone had tears when they showed him walking away from the ring crying and played his goodbye video. He came back and Owen Hart sent him right back out. Well he returned at the Royal Rumble won it. Put his title shot on the line against Owen the man who almost ended his career and came out on top and went to win the world title from Bret at Wrestlemania.
The same thing happen with Stone Cold. Owen Hart injured his neck and noe one said he would ever wrestle again. Low and behold he makes a come back and wins the title at Wrestlemania. They have played the same story time and time again.
Macho Man lost to Warrior in a career ending match at Wrestlemania 91 then at Wrestlemania 92 won the title from Ric Flair. Everyone thought Hogan was finished when EarthQuake smashed him over and over and he came back to beat EarthQuake and went on to the following Wrestlemania to win the title back from Slaughter after Slaughter beat Warrior.
Now I am not saying most of the injuries were not for real but the WWE really used them for a story. I am also not saying I believe Bret faked his injuries. Both with Goldberg and the bike wreck. I am just saying that you would have to a fool to not know that Vince as well as Bret don’t see the door for a story that is worth millions.
Around the time Bret was leaving the WWF@the time. There and a made for tv story about wrestlers and Bret was a big part of it. If you recall some of the footage was of Bret talking over the phone with Vince about how he was going to leave the company. Bret said in his own words he could beat Shawn and go out on top. Thats the way things were suppost to go. Bret was suppost to beat Shawn and my guess is either on that PPV are the next night on RAW tell Vince and everyone to stick it and throw the belt down. Now everyone knows why Vince said he did it. Because one of his best guys was going to WCW and he was not about to let him just leave and take the fans. If you remember in the early 90’s Flair quit WCW and went to Vince and Vince said bring me the belt and for a long time Flair carried the WCW world heavy title belt around with him in the WWF. Vince probably fears that somehow it was going to come back to him and he knew that it was time to mark a new age for his company and when he * screwed * one of his greatest stars it flipped things around deeply. Then came the birth of Vince’s time the stuck up ego driven boss character as well as the birth of the golden age for Stone Cold. He had been around yes but that was time for him to shine. This blue collar working class touch as nails guy who most normal class fans related to. HHHMMM…. You will never convince me that Vince thought up all of this behind everyone’s back without Bret never knowing it.
If you know the personal history of Bret he always thought he was better then most of the stars even when he was a tag team wrestler. When he went out on his own and became more popular he thought so even more. His glory moment was at Summerslam 1991 when he beat Mr Perfect for the IC belt. He lost it won it back and then lost it to the Bulldog at Summerslam 1992. They were on last that night for two reasons. One because Vince knew the fans loved Bulldog because of where Summerslam took place. England…Second Bret told Vince he could be a main event and Vince told him Summerslam was his chance. Then Bret went on to beat Flair for the world title at a on video only event and I still can not find the video to his day.
But never the less Bret always thought he was better and he wanted to take the title from Hogan at a Wrestlemania to lead the company into the new age. Well he never got the chance because to Vince in my opinion Bret was his tool to make new superstars. A lot if not all of Vince’s biggest stars their careers were defined when they beat Bret. Bulldogs greatest moment was when he beat him at Summerslam. Shawn Michaels greatest moment was when he beat him at Wrestlemania. Stone Colds moment when the fans started to take him in is when he lasted in Bret at Wrestlemania. Vince became a supertstar the moment he ordered the time keeper to ring the bell on Bret.
But no matter what Bret always seemed to get the belt back rather it was the IC belt are the world title. Never keeping it very long. I personally believe that Bret was in on the whole screw job with the agreement to Vince that he always had a open door ticket back into the company. Because no one really liked Bret as a bad guy and Bret situation was like a deep wound. In time it will and I believe they both figured if he went away for a while and things got boiled up in the WWF/WWE and new stars were born Bret could start all over. And to me it looks like their plan is working. The last fans know of Bret is his Hall of Fame speech on his DVD release.
But fans still chant to Vince * You Screwed Bret * and when Bret appears once and a while like he did the night Vince was blown up. Fans went crazy. I think the pot has been boiling now for a long time for Bret’s return and it’s hot enough to boil over I think. With Hogan returning and Vince returning to RAW and so many superstars I think the path is laid out for Bret to make one of the greatest come backs in WWE history.
I can not see him coming back for any long period of time. I can see him making a big come back and having a for old time sake match with Flair. Then without a dout there would have to be a Bret Hart VS Vince match. That would be bigger then any match Vince has has to date. They could do it by Bret winning the chance to get in the ring with him. Maybe facing Shawn Michaels and the winner gets a crack and Vince at the next PPV. Yes Shawn has already faced Vince and I can only dream about it but I still say it should happen. When Hogan returns I would like to see him become champ and he and Bret have a show down for the title ending with Bret winning. That way Bret proved he is the best is there was and ever will be by having those few matches. Then he can go back to retirement and his extremely hot wife.

well austin sure as hell broke his neck and it did almost end his career, because that is one reason he had to retire so early becasue he had major neck problems. thats why when ud see him feud with taker or kane neither would ever do a tombstone on him, because he didnt want one because of his neck. now hogan and earthquake ya we all know that was fake, besdies, cant u tell when its fake? i mean there was no doubt austins was real. and no doubt it almost ended his career.
of course bret was in on it, the whole business aim is to entertain the fans!
my bollocks are itchy
sorry i meant to say that to a friend on msn
