The Wizzanator

NEWS: |NG| With the recent deaths of Chris Benoit & his family, wrestling has been put under the spotlight in terms of days on the road, steroid use and random drug testing. Konnan was a guest on the Nancy Grace TV show and had this to say…

July 27th, 2007: Congress Looks Into WWE’s Drug Policy

If you’ve noticed, I’ve stayed away from every Benoit story since the week it happened. Mostly because summer (in the US) is a time with few big stories so the media grabs on to one and endlessly covers it. But Konnan’s comments are something that I find interesting.

Specifically his comments towards Vince McMahon. Wrestling fans have a love/hate relationship when it comes to him. But it’s mostly based on creative ideas and what he puts on TV. But Konnan is criticizing Vince’s methods of pushing big guys and leaving the smalls guys in the dust. I have to agree with him on this one. All big guys have been getting the spotlight on TV now. Umaga is still being pushed despite anything interesting about him, Viscera just got repackaged, Khali continues to be in the main event scene, Snitsky is starting his push on RAW etc etc etc. It’s also been reported that Rey Mysterio will not get another title run because he’s too small. His title run was only done because there was a good story behind it.

So what does this all mean? I think this creates an environment where wrestlers will do anything, possibly steroids, to get bigger and better so that Vince will give them a chance. This is pretty much what Konnan is getting at and I think it’s true. Maybe you do also? Or maybe not?
