NEWS: |Matt B| Our first match is a Singapore Cane on a Pole Match featuring Sandman versus Matt Striker. The first person to reach the cane can use it on their opponent. Striker immediately goes for the cane, but Sandman stops him. Striker focuses on the legs of Sandman with several take downs, knees and forearms to the left knee. Sandman pulls him down again so Striker focuses on the left knee some more. Striker goes for an elbow to the knee off the middle rope, but Sandman moves and climbs for the cane. Striker follows behind and the two are fighting on the top turnbuckle. Striker then back body drops Sandman off the top and grabs the cane. Strike uses it twice on Sandman, but Sandman reverses it by getting the cane and starts swinging away. Striker is busted open and is surprised that he’s bleeding. Striker rolls out of the ring still shocked as he aimlessly walks to the back. The ref awards Sandman the win by count out.
In our next match. CM Punk takes on Renee Dupree in a rematch from last week (10.10.06). Before the bell even rings, Dupree slaps Punk in the face. Punk charges, but Dupree goes between the ropes so the ref break the two up. Punk is still close which allows Dupree to snap Punk’s name over the top rope. Dupree follows with a reverse elbow, hard and loud kicks, more elbows and stomps. Cover by Dupree, kick up by Punk. Two scoop slams by Dupree and Punk starts fighting back. Running leg lariat by Punk, two slaps and a kick followed by the uranage and Anaconda Vice for the win. Afterwards Mike Knox charges the ring. Punk knocks him away and Knox backtracks. From the ring Punk tells him the fight should be in the ring and continues to yell at him.
Backstage, new ECW girl Rebecca asks Rob Van Dam about his rematch with Big Show. RVD says he started at the bottom and finally worked his way back up after the title was stolen from him. He’s the best in ECW and he has what it takes to slay the Big Show. All he needs is once chance and he has it tonight. But eventually Show will have to put up the title against Rob Van Dam.
Test comes out to the ring and grabs the mic. He tells everyone to “feast their eyes” on the biggest impact player in ECW. He’s the most ruthless wrestler in ECW and then talks about Holly. Holly got sliced up in the RVD match a few weeks ago (09.26.06), but then he put his hands on Heyman (10.03.06). So Test, the most ruthless wrestler, had no choice but to slam a chair into Holly’s body. Fans chant “You Suck!” Test brushes it off. He’s heard that Holly will be back in a week and that’s fine because his ruthlessness has no bounds — Balls’ music hits and he comes to the ring. Balls grabs the mic and tells Test that Holly is medically suspended, but if Test wants competition then he’s found it. Test would love to fight Balls, but just not tonight. Test walks away, but Balls grabs him and starts swinging.
The bell rings and a ref runs in to officiate. Irish whip by Balls and a clothesline. Balls misses a splash which allows Test to start stomping. He throws Balls into the ring post shoulder first. Then he does it again in the opposite ring post. Test slams Balls’ arm against the apron and locks in a wrist lock. Balls fights to his feet as fans chant his name. Right hands by Balls, but Test gets his boot up and snaps Balls’ arm over his shoulder. Cover by Test, Balls kicks out. Knee to the gut by Test, but Balls hits a reverse elbow, two clotheslines and his left hands. Thumb to the eye by Test and spinebuster by Balls. Test follows with a huge boot to the face. He lifts up Balls and nails his swinging neck breaker for the win.
In the next match, Shannon Moore takes on Sabu. Sabu misses the dive for the leg and so does Shannon Moore. Leg drop by Sabu, right hands and a leg lariat. Middle rope clothesline by Sabu and Moore rolls out of the ring. Sabu grabs the top rope, leaps over and nails Moore with a splash after flipping in the air. Back in the ring where Sabu hits another clothesline. Moore hits a springboard moonsault and then locks in an armbar. Sabu breaks it with right hands, hits an Irish whip and is met with a reverse elbow by Moore. Shannon misses the top rope corkscrew which allows Sabu to hit the flipping leg drop for the win.
Backstage, Rebecca interviews ECW Champion Big Show. Show says its a great day because RVD is stepping in the ring with the champion of champions. Not just the ECW Champion, but the true champion. Show will prove this at Cyber Sunday. RVD only got this match tonight because Heyman gave him a break. Show promises to give RVD a real title shot if RVD beats him tonight.
In our main event of the night, RVD takes on Big Show in a non-title match up. Fans start a huge RVD chant and Show just shoves him to the mat. RVD goes after him with right hands, leg drops, kicks and even more kicks. RVD bounces off the ropes and Show kicks him in the face. Show brings RVD to his feet, but RVD snaps his neck over the top rope. RVD jumps off the top rope and knocks Show down. Cover by RVD, Show kicks up. Big Show lifts up RVD and hands him on the top rope. RVD slowly falls back and crashes to the floor in pain. Commercial. When we come back, Show is still in control of RVD. He slams RVD into the mat and delivers some big slaps to the chest. RVD is choked on the bottom rope. RVD starts fighting back, but Show grounds him with a clothesline. Show takes him time and brings RVD to his feet. RVD starts punching and hits a standing side kick. RVD jumps off the top rope and nails a side kick. RVD follows with Rolling Thunder. and covers Show…One…Two…Show breaks it. More kicks by RVD and he bounces off the ropes. Show quickly gets to his feet and spears RVD! This becomes a cover, but RVD gets his shoulder up. Show drags RVD to the corner and climbs to the middle rope. Show goes for a splash, but RVD rolls out of the way. Show gets to his feet and RVD charges. Show catches him and the two start exchanging holds. Show accidentally nails the ref. Show goes for a chokeslam on RVD, but RVD reverses it midair into a DDT. RVD climbs to the top rope, but Test runs in and pushes him off. Test stomps RVD and then nails him in the side with a chair from the apron. Holly then runs up, grabs the chair and nails Test twice with it. Big Show reaches over the top rope and grabs Holly by the face. Blindly, Holly nails Show in the head with the chair, turns around and then nails him again. Show falls backward and lands hard. RVD sees this, jumps off the top rope and connects with the Five Star Frog Splash. Cover by RVD…One…Two…Three! Winner, RVD and #1 Contender for the ECW Title, Rob Van Dam.
The Singapore Cane match was really short. I wouldn’t even call it a match. It was more of a fight or brawl. But ECW has no reason to speed this feud up and I like the pace it’s going at. Everytime these two have an encounter, some thing different results. And tonight, it was Striker bleeding for the first time. So now I just wonder where Striker will go next which basically keeps me interested. But like I said, a little short, but it’s OK.
Renee Dupree looked match better tonight. I can’t really tell how much heat he got from the crowd. Maybe that means he got none, but it was hard to tell either way. This match is hard to judge since the two went back and forth and it was short, but I was entertained.
The impromptu Test/Balls match was good. I love how ECW’s focus is on wrestling. Balls simply stated he wants a fight and that started the match. And that’s all we need. It can as simple as that. The match was good between the two and the crowd was behind Balls. Test did get some heat too which was good. I take exception to Test calling himself an Impact player since he’s not Credible or Lance Storm. But maybe it’s a shot at Credible for no showing. Who knows. I’m probably looking to far into it. Anyway, Test looked good and now I’ve got a Test/Holly feud to look forward to. It’s funny. If Test and Holly were on RAW or Smackdown, I could care less about a feud between the two. But in ECW I’m excited. Stuff like this makes ECW so damn good.
I hated the Sabu/Moore match. I’m glad these two got TV time, especially Moore, but the match sucked. These two had no chemistry at all. And Moore’s top high risk moves got him no crowd reaction because it felt like bad timing. These two can put on good wrestling matches, but tonight wasn’t one of them.
The RVD/Show match was toned down a lot. It wasn’t like their past matches and was pretty boring. But the finish was good as it set up ECW for the weeks to come. Holly helped out RVD and started his feud with Test. In the end, the crowd popped for him and I enjoyed it. RVD got his title shot and we finally have something to look forward to.
Overall, another good ECW show and another show with no weapons. You can consider the Singapore Cane match a weapons match, but it really wasn’t if you compare it to past ECW shows. It was still good though, but I’m really missing the the tables and trash cans.

Still, we did get chairs and canes.
No Kelly Kelly. Oh no, I am so missing her. Or not.
Punk/Dupree was good. It’s nice to see them push Dupree as being a good match for Punk, and since I’m not a fan of squashes, I liekd it a lot. Punk really got into Knox’s face, which was fun to watch. Punk really comes across as intense in promos and in the ring, and he’s going places, for sure.
Sabu/Moore was too slow, too onesided, and not very smooth. I wouldn’t say it sucked, but it’s a tough argument to make to call it good, either.
Test and Balls was a good showing. Test really is looking better in the ring than ever. He’s not Liger or Mutoh or something, but he’s more than just another big man, which means something in this business.
RVD/Show was pretty good, with both coming across as major forces. Holly and Test actually added to, rather than detracting, from the quality, unlike many run ins. None of those moronic SWAT team goons this week. Good. No one missed them.
Stiff shots from Holly, but that’s what you can expect from one of the harshest men in wrestling. If you were Sparky, you’d be pissed, too. Test and show really got blasted. Huge head or not, Show really took it like a champ. OW.
Lots of wrestling, lots of matches, and little fluff. Good. Other than the emphasis on that interviewer that seemed really out of place, it was action all around. Good. Make that hour count.
i wish that they would have left kevin thorn in his mordecai look, i really enjoyed that.
