The Real Star of The Marine

NEWS: |CB| WWE’s newest movie The Marine, starring John Cena, Kelly Carlson and Robert Patrick opens in theatres tomorrow (10.13.06). Here’s a quick preview…

“WWE wrestling champion John Cena makes his motion picture debut in this rugged action thriller. Cena is John Triton, a heroic Marine who returns home after being discharged against his will — from the Iraq War. Stateside, he finds himself back in action, when his wife (Kelly Carlson) is kidnapped by a murderous gang led by the merciless Rome (Robert Patrick). With everything on the line, the Marine will stop at nothing to carry out his toughest and most important mission.”

Considering my ongoing dislike of John Cena over the past few months, I hope no one sees this movie. I want this movie to tank and I want WWE to lose a ton of money. I don’t want a wrestler to be running with the title just because he has a new movie coming out. A movie should not dictate who the WWE Champion will be nor should it even be a factor. With that I suggest you see one of these other fine films:

-The Departed
-Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
-The Illusionist
-Gridiron Gang
-Jet Li’s Fearless

Eh, I think it looks dumb anyway. Cena’s not a terrible wrestler, per se, but he needs to do something new. New, fresh feuds, a less static moveset, and a more intense attitude in the ring. He needs a Mankind to his Rock, with a series of brutal matchups, to show the fans he has a mean streak, for us to buy into him as a champion. Him and Edge are finally done feuding, it seems. Good. It’s gotten stale, and it isn’t Edge to blame.

We need a Rock, if he wants to be the star: Instead, they’re giving us a Rocky Maivia.

I am probably going to incite a riot, but in an industry where everything is contrived and a company that hasn’t been legit since the mid-80’s, why shouldn’t Cena have the strap again?

If your whole argument about him holding the title is because WWE shouldn’t cross-promote the champ in a movie, that’s a pretty weak side to take, especially given the fact that the company’s name has the word “entertainment” in it.

I can understand the “I don’t like Cena” comments, I just feel that he shouldn’t be slighted because he wants to take advantage of what Vince has created…

Well Vince also thought Mark Henry and Marc Mero would be big stars. Cena cant add interest in a match and the belt doesnt mean anything anymore. Edge was a great champ and he should have feuded with HBK with HBK winning the belt.

I want to see different Champions like Kane, Taker, Michaels, Jeff Hardy and maybe even HHH. Wrestling should be called a sport or people like me will lose interest.

The movies problem is that WWE will not be taken seriously and they are attempting to many things at once.

I agree with you on Edge being a better champ. He has more credibility with fans, and he has a shitload more heat. He’s managed to show more intensity, also, with his match with Foley being a great example. It’s nice to see that Foley was able to help his real-life friend reach that next level.

Unfortunately, Cena still hasn’t reached it.

-diamond- to add to your list of “shouldbe” world champs i think mark henry and benoit should also be there.

Benoit, totally, but Henry? Eh, maybe if they let him freaking smile again. Sexual Chocolate? Charisma. World’s Strongest Man? Not a freaking bit of it.

Agree with Matt B WWE should respect the business and make champions based on he interests of Wrestling fans. I also hope this movie makes little money as possible.

Why make a champion just to promote a movie? Seriously does anyone even care who the WWE champ is right now?, cause I dont. When Edge held the belt I cared, now I am just bored.

maybe they shoulda made kane champ when he had the movie, not that it woulda mattered because people still saw it cause it was kane, i woulda liked that tho.

-bradley c- i like the gimmick they were going with for mark henry just before he got hurt, i think he would make a good champ on smackdown for a while, or at least involve him in the us title.

Mark henry was a horrible wrestler and he couldn’t make you scared of anything except him sitting on you.

See no evil made about 15 million dollars with a 4 or 5 million dollar opening weekend.
The marine opened with something like 7 million.
WWE films needs to release something during a period when people actually want to go to movies.

  13. [...] Backstage, Kevin Federline & Johnny Nitro finish watching a promo for John Cena’s movie The Marine. Nitro saw the CSI episode with Federline and says he’s a much better actor than Cena. He also says Federline is a much better rapper than Cena. Federline says Cena’s album did 500,000 sales, but he will do that in his first week when his album debuts on Halloween next week. Nitro agrees and says that tonight, he’ll show Cena that he’s the better the wrestler. Federline wants his piece of Cena. He can’t be humiliated again. [...]
