ECW (09.26.06) — Striker Costs Sandman his Title Match, Holly and RVD in Extreme Rules and Knox Getting Pissed

NEWS: |Matt B| JR is introduced as a special guest considering ECW is in Oklahoma tonight. He thanks the crowd, Tazz and Styles for inviting him (Tazz and Styles argue about who invited him). JR goes on to say how he watches ECW each and every night — Bell rings and Matt Striker comes out. He tells JR that after hearing him talk, he knows that he lacks education. Striker starts getting in JR’s face and Sandman runs in. He nails Striker with the cane, hands it to JR and JR nails Striker too. Striker runs out of the ring quickly. Sandman doesn’t follow, but instead celebrates with JR as both men open a beer. JR makes a toast to the next ECW World Champion, the Sandman. Both men down the beers as the crowd cheers.

Promo for Bischoff’s new book “Controversy Creates Ca$h.”

Backstage, Holly tells RVD that he’ll show him what’s in store later tonight. Clip played of Holly attacking RVD last week (09.19.06).

In the arena, Holly comes to the ring followed by RVD for their Extreme Rules Match. Take down by RVD, an Irish Whip followed by a running leg lariat. Kick to the gut by Holly and some right hands. Kick to the face by RVD and he pushes him out of the ring. Holly pulls RVD out of the ring by the leg and beats him down. RVD hangs Holly up on the barricade and delivers a spinning leg drop from the apron. RVD brings out a table which allows Holly to get a breather and attack from behind. He throws RVD into the steel steps, chops him and then throws him into the ring post. RVD thrown into the ring where Holly delivers a standing leg drop, kicks to the gut and some right hands. RVD turns it around and punches back. Irish whip by RVD and he charges. Holly gets his foot up and kicks RVD straight in the face. Holly chokes him on the middle rope and puts him in the Camel Clutch. RVD powers himself up, but Holly still beats him down. RVD still tries to mount an offense, but Holly continues to pound him down. Holly tries to suplex RVD from inside the ring to the outside, but RVD fights it. RVD tries to suplex Holly back into the ring from the apron, but Holly fights it. Holly tries to suplex RVD yet again and finally does it. Both men fall off the apron and crash through the table. Commercial. When we come back, both men are up and fighting. Holly has a laceration in his back and is bleeding down his back. Holly sets up a chair in the ring and drops RVD neck first on to it. Holly folds the chair and sets it on RVD’s face. Holly climbs to the second rope and delivers a leg drop onto the chair. Holly now tries to suplex RVD onto the chair, but RVD blocks it and suplexes Holly instead. Both men back to the their feet, but RVD gets the better of Holly with two clotheslines and a monkey flip. Flying side kick by RVD off the top rope and then picks up the chair. He kicks the chair into Holly’s face and then delivers Rolling Thunder onto Holly with the chair draped over his body. Cover by RVD…One…Two…Shoulder Up! RVD places the chair in the middle of the ring and tries to monkey flip Holly on to it, but Holly catches RVD mid air and powerbombs him on to the chair. Holly brings RVD to his feet, but RVD kicks him fast and Holly hits the mat. RVD places the chair over Holly’s body and goes for the Five Star Frog Splash. But Holly throws the chair up and it nails RVD in the face. Holly lifts up the chair to swing, but RVD hops up and kicks the chair back into Holly’s face. RVD climbs to the top rope, delivers the Five Star Frog Splash and covers Holly…One…Two…Three! Winner, RVD.

Backstage, CM Punk reiterates that he’s straight edge. But he does have an addiction, competition. He wants to compete with all the great ECW veterans and wants to face the Big Show. Kelly Kelly comes up and grabs Punk for a bit. She loves his tattoos and especially the one with the four aces. She reminds Punk about the Diva Strip Poker game in two weeks. But since she’s only 19 and can’t get into casinos, she asks him if he’ll help her practice. Mike Knox grabs Kelly and asks her what she’s doing. She’s always looking at Punk and Knox wonders if he’s enough man for her. Knox tells Punk to stay away, but Punk tells him that she’s always climbing into his yard. The two get in each others’ face and Knox says he’ll come back for Punk after he straightens Kelly out.

Our next match is an Extreme Cat Fight between Francine and Ariel. Ariel informs Francine that she read her future earlier and it said that Francine will be fat, ugly and pregnant. And she’ll never be with a man like Thorn. Francine jumps her and the two begin to brawl. Francine starts slamming Ariel’s head into the mat so Thorn comes in to help. He holds Francine back, but Balls Mahoney hits the ring and nails Thorn with a chair. Thorn & Ariel leave the ring as Francine and Ariel continue to scream at each other.

Backstage, Heyman tells Show that Sandman will always be looking for the cane to get the upper hand, so he banned it. Show shrugs it off and says he’ll be fine. In fact, the cane is legal. If Show gets a hold of the cane, he’ll turn Sandman into a popsicle.

Backstage, Renee Dupree steps out of the shower and reminds everyone that he’s the most extreme wrestler in ECW. He opens up his towel, looks down, looks back up and the smirks.

In the main event of the night, Sandman challenges Big Show for the ECW Title. Sandman makes his entrance through the crowd as we go to commercial. When we come back, Sandman is nailing Show with the cane over and over again. Show is brought to his knees and rolls out of the ring. Sandman canes him several more times as Show slides back into the ring with his forehead bleeding. Show finally fights back with chop after chop as Sandman drops his cane. Head butt by Show and a big right hand. Sandman punches back, bounces off the ropes and gets clotheslined by Show. Scoop slam by Show, another right hand and he goes for the chokeslam. Sandman wiggles out of it and delivers a DDT. Sandman picks up his cane, nails Show a few times and then climbs the ropes to deliver another cane shot to the head. Cover by Sandman…One…Two…Should Up. Sandman reaches for his cane, but Matt Striker comes in and takes it away. Show goes on the offense, delivers the cobra clutch back breaker followed by the modified leg drop for the win.

Normally I wouldn’t want JR in an ECW ring, but the segment was ECW style so it wasn’t all that bad. I loved it when Tazz and Styles were arguing about who invited JR. You don’t see that stuff on RAW between JR and King.

Man the RVD/Holly match was awesome. Holly really is a tough son-a-bitch. That laceration looked bad. Great great match. I loved it how both Holly and RVD continually used the chair over and over again. Damn good match and I’m glad the crowd cheered Holly once he got up. It’s great to see a guy who wasn’t cheered on RAW or Smackdown, get an ovation in ECW just for giving it his all.

The Francine/Ariel (if you wanna call it that) was alright. It’s pretty much building up a rivalry so I’m glad it was on tonight. It was better than having Thorn attack Balls in another match or vice versa. Plus, we got to see Francine which I liked.

ECW slowly building Knox/Punk. I’m looking forward to this.

No Shannon Moore?

The main event was alright. Not bad, but not great.

Solid show. The hour flew by fast and it was better than last week. I’m already looking forward to next weeks episode.

  1. vergerio says:

Holly hands down stole the show tonight. HE was awesome.

  2. Matt B says:

-Vergerio- Agreed. I want a rematch between the two. Maybe Holly could cut a promo saying RVD won because of his injury and then have another match.

I really don’t care how they do it, I just wanna see it.

  3. vergerio says:

Yah, and if they do make it a PPV Extreme Rules match. Imagine those two beating the hell out of each other at Survivor Series.

  4. KANE says:

ecw’s return in the ppv scene is scheduled for december 3, named December to Dismember.

  5. Matt B says:

-Kane- I’m looking forward to that. ECW will also have a match or two at Survivor Series. Probably another Big Show title match though.

  6. ShaDow says:

Big Show’s a good chanpion. Which is something I never thought I’d said.

  7. KANE says:

hes not bad ill give him that, ive seen better and ive seen worse *cena* i hope he wont have a single match a the series, i hope itll be a 3 or 4 way match. hes not to hardcore by himself.

  8. Renegade Sombrero says:

I’ve been big on the new ECW since the first episode, I think not alot of people had the patience to wait for ECW to straighten itself out and gave up after the first few weeks. I personally think this week was the best show of ECW since the beginning, I’m glad to also see some people seeing the light as Big Show is a great champion for ECW, he has stepped his game up ten notches since being a guy that couldn’t find his spot on the RAW roster.

CM Punk vs Knox should be great, I also like the fact that Punk is above trying to get his hands on Kelly but will use the opportunity given to him to kick the hell out of Mike Knox!

Like you said Matt, that hour FLEW by, the RVD/Holly match stole the show for sure, although the championship match was great, I have to give the blue ribbon to RVD vs Holly for sure.
Can’t wiat for next week and I hope at Survivor Series we’ll atleast see a Series with ECW Originals vs New Blood
In closing: ECW! ECW! ECW! ECW! ECW!

  9. KANE says:

holly and rvd no question, match of the night, i hope tazz will ring joey styles neck next time he screeches “CAAATTT FFFFIIIIGGGHHHHTTTT!!!!” i know i want to.

  10. [...] NEWS: |Matt B| Backstage, Heyman praises Holly for his performance last week and how tough he is. Holly doesn’t care and tells Heyman that he wants RVD tonight. Heyman tells Holly that he can’t risk it. If Holly gets hurt again then he could be in serious trouble with lawyers and insurance companies. Holly grabs Heyman and threatens to hurt him, but Test comes from behind and smacks chair into the back of Holly. Holly goes down fast and is squirming in pain. Heyman tells Holly that RVD will still be in action tonight and it’ll be against Test. [...]

  11. [...] Test comes out to the ring and grabs the mic. He tells everyone to “feast their eyes” on the biggest impact player in ECW. He’s the most ruthless wrestler in ECW and then talks about Holly. Holly got sliced up in the RVD match a few weeks ago (09.26.06), but then he put his hands on Heyman (10.03.06). So Test, the most ruthless wrestler, had no choice but to slam a chair into Holly’s body. Fans chant “You Suck!” Test brushes it off. He’s heard that Holly will be back in a week and that’s fine because his ruthlessness has no bounds — Balls’ music hits and he comes to the ring. Balls grabs the mic and tells Test that Holly is medically suspended, but if Test wants competition then he’s found it. Test would love to fight Balls, but just not tonight. Test walks away, but Balls grabs him and starts swinging. [...]
