BREAKING: Kurt Angle Released

(WWE.com) Due to personal issues, Kurt Angle has been granted an early release from his contract. WWE looks forward to establishing a new relationship with Kurt in the near future.

Update: Vince McMahon makes a statement on WWE.com

“It’s unfortunate that Kurt was released, and it’s really unfortunate for the WWE fans who, for a while at least, won’t see Angle in action,” the Chairman told WWE.com. “(Angle) is a consummate professional; obviously he’s a great athlete, and he’s the only Olympic Gold Medalist in WWE history. Not to have Kurt with us is really unfortunate all the way around…but circumstances were such that Kurt should have been, and was, granted his release.”

“Kurt has a history of being one of the greatest athletes that America has ever seen. It’s no secret that even when Kurt won the Olympic Gold Medal, he did so with a broken neck,” he said. “Kurt has been dealing with that pain, and the advancement of that pain, as well as other injuries. He had been dealing with that injury since he won the gold medal; he had been masking it in many ways just so he could go out and compete. Kurt only knows 100-percent; he is not one of those guys who can go out and compete at an 85-percent level. He just cannot do that; he’s a thoroughbred. He has to go as fast, and as great, and as strong as he possibly can; that’s the only way Kurt Angle knows.”

“WWE would certainly welcome Kurt back with open arms,” the Chairman affirmed. “I think Kurt has some issues he has to face, as we all do from time to time. We all have our demons, and as human beings, it is important for us to overcome them and become better human beings, athletes and business people.”

Shit this is a big shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:35 pmKANE

    that is big

  3. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:36 pmKANE

    i hope he comes back

  4. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:36 pmKANE

hes been in wwe for a while too.

  5. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:40 pmKANE

just wait, next week he’ll be on tna

  6. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:41 pmDiamond

Yeah he is a Legend and I think he done the right thing. His injuries were taking there toll. Also in WWE he is not on the main show, so why waste his talent.

  7. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:42 pmDiamond

You think he will come to TNA? Maybe in the future and he probably wants to sort his personal life out, right now………

  8. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:43 pmKANE

i just meant it would be kinda funny to see him on tna, but every legend has to retire sometime.

  9. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:47 pmKANE

i guess his history of neck injuries finally caught up to him.

  10. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:49 pmDiamond

    Yeah his done it all:

    *WWF Champion

    *WCW Champion

    *World Heavyweight Champion

    *WWE Tag Team Champion

    *Intercontinental Champion & European Champion

    *WCW US Champion

    *King of The Ring

TNA would definately consider him, but I think right now he needs a break and heel up. I also hope him the best with his family.

  11. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:50 pmKANE

if hes done for good, he should go into the hall of fame this year or the next

  12. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:53 pmDiamond

Yeah HOF is what he should do, but he shouldnt become a road agent or any other backstage job. He should be remembered for being a wrestler and then leave (What the great Bret Hart said).

  13. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:56 pmKANE

he is one if not thee greatest wrestler ive ever seen.

  14. on 25 Aug 2006 at 6:58 pmKANE

    -diamond-exactly

  15. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:00 pmKANE

although hed have to be a amazing road agent to not be known for his career as a wrestler

  16. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:05 pmKANE

i cant wait till y2j comes back tho.

  17. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:08 pmDiamond

Yes Y2J coming back would Break The Walls Down!!! He is the main man the Ayatollah of Rock n Rolla. Although I am pretty upset he has become a post grunger…

  18. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:15 pmNathaniel

Wonder if this was personal i.e. backstage politics or if its because of his neck? Anyone know?
This is a huge, huge loss for the wwe. Angle is one of the greatest if not the greatest of all time.

  19. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:23 pmDiamond

Well it could be both, Kurt needed to leave WWE definately to sort the injuries out.I wouldnt be suprised if he had heat from other wrestlers especially since he and Michaels stole the show at Mania.

  20. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:26 pmDiamond

Since that match alot of negative reports about Angle showed up. Also in ECW KA, was never on PPV. Dont you earn more by being on PPV? So good decision to leave WWE in my opinion.

  21. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:36 pmNathaniel

he stole WM21, and his match w/ orton/rey at 22 outshined hhh/cena. might have been a too good for his own good sort of thing. he was super over on the events he was on, am hoping its just an injury thing and he’s able to recover.

  22. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:40 pmDiamond

I think he will recover, but should rest him self for now. He should be back but to where?

  23. on 25 Aug 2006 at 7:41 pmDiamond

He always was a reliable main eventer along with Benoit.

  24. on 25 Aug 2006 at 8:11 pmhoover

i believe he will be back. i remember reading he just went through a messy divorce. he will be back by mania. ecw will not be here for mania.

  25. on 25 Aug 2006 at 8:55 pmShaDow

They just released him because they want him to rest up because of all of his injuries. He’ll be back.

  26. on 25 Aug 2006 at 8:56 pmShaDow

    He’s not going to TNA

  27. on 25 Aug 2006 at 9:23 pmDiamond

At this moment of time its hard to tell, but I feel Kurt walked before he was pushed.

In WWE theres nothing happening and he might as well retire, how many newcomers can you wrestle since 2002, or have limited opponents due to the brand split.

Same with Kane, the situation in WWE is frustrating as McMahon/HHH hog the limelight. CC and Y2J left for this reason.

He earned alot of money, did it all and may be he will return but for now he doesnt need to.

  28. on 25 Aug 2006 at 9:38 pmNathaniel

if he returns or not the impact he’s made in only six years is amazing, its just to bad he never had the mania moment where he won the title at the end of the show.
on the upside you could ask anyone to name their top five favorite angle matches and you’d get a different list every time.

  29. on 25 Aug 2006 at 9:51 pmDiamond

    Nathaniel Its True Its True!

  30. on 26 Aug 2006 at 4:55 amundertaker

    its damn true

  31. on 26 Aug 2006 at 6:31 amShaDow

He’s right up there with guys like The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, Shawn Micheals, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant and The Undertaker.

  32. on 26 Aug 2006 at 10:47 amR.Keane

He’s been more loyal to the WWE than his own family. For this to happen, I think it’s something serious. Also, I think he would be willing to die in the ring than quit. I think his injuries have gotten to be serious. I really don’t think it’s a personal issue between McMahon and Angle. I doubt he’ll show up on TNA. I think that Angle has to be careful…..as with the case of Steve Austin. Angle can’t afford to hurt himself or anyone else for that matter in the ring. Something tells me that McMahon is being cautious here. Not only that but I think Angle has changed since the seperation from his family. He could have some personal issues going on too…..not a reason to release him….but perhaps restructure his contract? I don’t know…just a guess. I just find it hard to believe that Angle and the WWE have turned their backs on one another.

  33. on 26 Aug 2006 at 11:09 amBig dave (Jimbob)

ecw is becoming boring now it was ok when it 1st started but its turnin shit and id sooner watch smackdown.

  34. on 26 Aug 2006 at 11:11 amBig dave (Jimbob)

anyone any ideas about the main event at unforgiven? triple threat jeff hardy, edge and cenas in my head

  35. on 26 Aug 2006 at 12:15 pmNathaniel

I think he’s still come back for some rare “one night only” matches.

  36. on 26 Aug 2006 at 4:41 pmhoover

hey big dave how about edge and hardy tlc match

  37. on 26 Aug 2006 at 7:30 pmDiamond

Kurt will be back for 1 time only matches after he heals himself in the future.

Good to see people wanting Jeff Hardy to be in the main event, as if he stays in the mid card he will become stale. He needs the Heavy Weight title and ECW was always going to be shit under WWE, which I said before it began because Vinces ideas are not ECW.

Get this Vince will get rid of guys like CW, Mamaluke, Stevie Richards & Francine in favour of guys like Dupree.

Who agrees they should just have 2 ECW ppv every year, instead of it being a seperate brand?

  38. on 26 Aug 2006 at 9:27 pmZeroPhobia

Well WWE has released an article about his release..

    http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/3232350

What he said is somewhat meaningful..

I hope he will be healed soon.. I can’t wait for him to come back…

  39. on 26 Aug 2006 at 9:39 pmhoover

i was wrong it will be edge and cena in a tlc match

  40. on 26 Aug 2006 at 10:40 pmDiamond

I read somewhere that Kurt Angle would have got a million dollars, even if he went to rehab and took time off for the remainder of his contract. Then he could have opted not to resign. So why did he let go of free money? Some people in WWE are questioning his real reasons and no one knows why?

    Interesting wouldnt you say?

  41. on 27 Aug 2006 at 5:05 amZeroPhobia

Well i guess he values his family more and with the recent tear in his groin (that would been a serious issue with my girlfriend if i had that problem - if you know what i mean ). I guess it is time for him to heal up and stay with his family..

  42. on 27 Aug 2006 at 5:53 amBig dave (Jimbob)

hoover good idea but i would have a tlc triple threat cena hardy and edge.

  43. on 27 Aug 2006 at 6:08 amBig dave (Jimbob)

i hope cena wins he is really kicking arse lately and he is a good wrestler, people are starting to like him again, he is a 2 time champ and only young plenty more success i predict for cena!!

  44. on 27 Aug 2006 at 8:39 amDiamond

Zerophobia lol, it is a very serious injury…….

  45. on 27 Aug 2006 at 5:46 pmKANE

the main event for unforgiven is cena vs edge again but this time in a tlc match, alls i got to say is……enough with cena!!!!! and big dave, no wonder cena has so much sucess, hes “controversial” i think someone DESERVING of a wwe title should win like, kane, undertaker, benoit, they should all win another title, (at least kane and benoit should, i dunno if undertaker can handle being champ at his age now), but enough with cena, i hate him

  46. on 27 Aug 2006 at 5:48 pmKANE

    wwe has overused cena

  47. on 27 Aug 2006 at 6:38 pmShaDow

Exactly. WWE needs to give the title to someone who hasen’t had it in a long time that deserves it.

  48. on 27 Aug 2006 at 6:43 pmKANE

when rvd was about to win the title i knew he was going to because they were sayin hes the greatest wrestler to never win a world title, they could start saying that about kane because he held it for one day and i rememebr when he stole the title for longer than he won it, that relle relle bugs me, he stole from raw to smackdown in one week from hhh

  49. on 27 Aug 2006 at 7:03 pmDiamond

Has Cena not been in every main event since 2005 Mania? I would like to see HHH and Jeff Hardy in the title mix & Hardy win the belt.

  50. on 27 Aug 2006 at 7:06 pmKANE

*sigh* i miss the attitude era, and the wwf, i miss unpredictability, on smackdown where vicki turned on rey, who didnt see that comin? i sure saw it from the beginning of the feud, i dont even know why i watch it anymore, it doesnt satisfy my need for competition, vince, i say stop blurring the wwf symbols and start sayin wwf, rather than austin was a former “wwe” champion rather than wwf, man, if vince wants to make money, bring back the attitude era, have some deserving wrestlers win championships rather than cena and edge, (although, i am happy where the ic title was going between nitro, carlito and benjamin, i think nitro is a good champ, and i enjoyed when benjamin was champ) and please stop with the cena and edge, i think we’re all bored of it, so lets have some long term dedicated employees (kane, benoit, perhaps even michaels or undertaker again) and give them a well deserved LENGTHY WORLD title reign, and that will satisfy our fans, and add some unpredictabitlity into it too, is that too much to ask?

  51. on 27 Aug 2006 at 7:50 pmDiamond

Attitude era rocked, why not let Taker and Michaels be champion, because if they lose the belt they would be able to give a rub to a younger star.

An Edge Kane feud would be good at Survivor series, Hell in a cell or something like that.

IC division is good and can the WWE, not change its name to World Wrestling Federation and not use an acronym?

  52. on 27 Aug 2006 at 8:33 pmBoobies

Kane what does “WWF” matter?? It means nothing just 3 letters representing World Wrestling Federation…. Its not vinces decision to “blur” the symbol anyway, its the courts! The World Wildlife Foundation put a stop to the WWF symbol all them years ago, what does it matter now? we are lucky that WWE can even release PPV events that were held under the WWF banner so just be greatful.

You can just bring back the attitude era either, its been and go and trying to recapture it just wont work… its the same as ECW you cant redo these things you have to reinvent. Thats what ECW have been doing they still have the same ideas behind them but they are different because times have changed. WWE needs to reinvent itself and stop treading old ground - new wrestlers need to take the top positions and lead the company into a new era.

The attitude era was great because new wrestlers came into the frame and made themselves stars, Austin broke through after years of trying, Your beloved Kane made it big, The Rock was the hottest property around, HHH developed his top heel character - then you had elder stars like Taker and Mankind who were not as old as people like Hogan and Flair!!!

WWE need a Rock or an Austin to develop and change things. Vince thought he had it with Cena, but he has bored people - Vince needs to stop trying to make one himself telling people that this is how they should like and instead just let it happen… look at Austin, vince wanted him to be a Heel - instead everyone cheered him much to his shock!

  53. on 27 Aug 2006 at 8:34 pmBoobies

    2nd paragraph should say:

You CANT just bring back the attitude era either, its been and GONE

  54. on 28 Aug 2006 at 2:44 amundertaker

i miss the attitude era why does no one lke wwe no more

  55. on 28 Aug 2006 at 7:02 amShaDow

undertaker-uhhh read all of the above to find out. Or better yet read all the past post on here after Wrestlemania 21 and you’ll find out.

Or I can tell you the reason why not ALOT of people like WWE as much as they did during the Attitude Era is because of how less extreme it is and how so many characters just suck (Simon Dean?, Charlie Haas?, Matt Striker?)

But WWE can’t be the way it used to be because of how there’s alot of kids who watch it now so they can’t have it as extreme as they did back in those days. Also alot of the better guys like The Rock and Austin are doing other things right now and they’ve already done it all anyway.

Another reason is because WWE has no real competition like when WCW was running around having Nitro on the same time and day as RAW. So they’re getting stale and it’s becoming a big problem and effecting their fans alot.

-but you probably already knew this stuff.

  56. on 28 Aug 2006 at 10:27 amundertaker

yeah i wish wwe could go back to its extreame mysterious self

  57. on 28 Aug 2006 at 10:48 amDiamond

Also Vince Russo was the Attitude guy, he even said to Vince McMahon, when he left that for the next 1 & half years you will have a great show as the guys are good enough.

After those 1 & half years WWE did go stale and Vince started to take the business back.

Vince Russo also said that the wrestling business, is killing the wrestling business. So far it is true, Vince has made WWE more traditional and this has made it less successful.

So instead of the Vince McMahon praise dvd, there should be a Vince Russo dvd, but the even sadder thing is that Russo has changed, so the saviour of Entertainment wrestling is gone…….

  58. on 28 Aug 2006 at 12:34 pmBoobies

You shouldnt listen to Vince Russo so much, he loves to talk - mainly about himself.

  59. on 28 Aug 2006 at 12:36 pmBoobies

Shadow?? What are you on about?? KIDS have ALWAYS watched wrestling, they are the target group, without Kids the wrestling business would not make any money, they pester their parents to buy them the merchandise - they are the ones that watch it - the biggest sector of Wrestling Fans are Kids and its always been that way!

  60. on 28 Aug 2006 at 1:34 pmDiamond

Shadow meant that he wants WWE wrestling to be targeted to adults again, irrespective of how many children watch. Another thing adults have money, kids have to pester their parents.

Vince Russo is the man Wrestling Entertainment and RAW was fuckin awesome during his time.

  61. on 28 Aug 2006 at 4:52 pmundertaker

    remember raw is war hehe

  62. on 28 Aug 2006 at 5:27 pmShaDow

Boobies- Remember when The Rock faced Mankind in that brutal I Quit Match for the WWF Title? (I forgot what PPV it was at) It was a very violent match and after that match parent’s started complaining to WWF saying it was too violent so they decided to tone it out.

  63. on 28 Aug 2006 at 5:42 pmKANE

-shadow- it was at st. valentines day massacre

  64. on 28 Aug 2006 at 5:55 pmKANE

-undertaker- who doesnt remember raw is war? i remember austin filling mcmahons corvette with cement, hell in a cell kane vs mankind, austin beating kane for the wwf title, austin giving the mcmahons a beer bath, austin giving d-lo brown a stunner on top of a semi, kane lighting a camera man on fire, i remember lots of good memories, and wwe has always targeted younger viewers so i think they should get violent again.

  65. on 28 Aug 2006 at 6:13 pmundertaker

kane shooting fire in x-pacs eyes, undertaker vs mankind hiac,dx express getting crushed…..ahhhhhhhh the memories

  66. on 28 Aug 2006 at 6:21 pmKANE

undertaker and mankind wasnt on raw, but i remember the fire in x-pacs face, dx express getting crushed but how about, the rocks car gettin run over by a monster truck? cactus jacks debut against hhh? cactus jack and chainsaw charlie (terry funk) getting put in a dumpster by the nao and getting rolled off the stage, kurt angle vs benoit, cage match, one of the best matches ive ever seen.

  67. on 28 Aug 2006 at 6:29 pmundertaker

wat were kurt moonsaults from the top of the cage

  68. on 28 Aug 2006 at 6:29 pmundertaker

    remember the ministry?

  69. on 28 Aug 2006 at 6:40 pmShaDow

I remember when RAW is WAR use to have WWF Title matches every week and they had Hell In A Cell Matches to. It was awesome.

  70. on 28 Aug 2006 at 7:04 pmKANE

-undertaker- yes kurt did a moonsault of the top of the cage and benoit did a headbutt, yes i remember the ministry, remember when undertaker tried to marry stephanie and austin broke it up? remember the nation?

-shadow- there were only 2 hell in a cells on raw that i can remember, kane vs mankind, kane and mankind, vs undertaker and stone cold

  71. on 28 Aug 2006 at 7:48 pmShaDow

KANE- but nowadays they only have HIAC Matches on PPV’s. It sucks.

  72. on 30 Aug 2006 at 6:07 pmKANE

and theyr not even that good anymore either, the one between kane and mankind was pretty good, foley fell from half way up, there were thumbtacks and chairs, i liked it, the most extreme thing ive ever seen was sabu vs terry funk in that barbed wire match, its on the ecw most violent matches dvd, it was awesomely gross.

  73. on 30 Aug 2006 at 6:07 pmKANE

-shadow- did u ever see it?
