RAW Report (07.31.06) — Orton Knows Best, HBK Takes on Umaga, Flair Confronts Foley and Triple Threat for the IC Title
Posted on July 31st, 2006 by Matt B
NEWS: |Matt B| Monday Night RAW starts with Shane & Vince McMahon coming to the ring. Vince is gloating about his new granddaughter and says she is already richer than everyone in the arena tonight. And thus they’re dedicating their tag team match against DX to their new granddaughter. And this match will occur at SummerSlam. “Are you ready?” A portion of DX’s music plays. Shane says it’s typical mind games by DX. Another portion of DX’s music plays. Shane isn’t phased and says these mind games will not work tonight when HBK takes on Umaga. DX’s music plays and they come not now. DX says congratulations are indeed in order because they will celebrate at SummerSlam when they beat the McMahons. But, they should also congratulate HHH who was also at that very hospital when Stephanie gave birth. But tonight, they’ll share some photos of Vince McMahon. DX shows a picture with Vince’s face taped on a baby’s body. Then they show Shane’s picture. Then HHH shows a picture of the newest member to the McMahon family and the picture is really a baby with HHH’s face on it. DX leaves to their music.
Diva Search Contestant tells everyone that JT should be the next Diva to be eliminated.
Our first match of the night is a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Title between Carlito, Shelton Benjamin and Champion Johnny Nitro. As Nitro is a bout to slide under Melina during their entrance, Carlito hits a dropkick which sends Nitro right out of the ring. Carlito and Nitro brawl on the outside until Shelton Benjamin takes them both out with a suicide dive. Commercial. We’re back and Shelton has a sleeper on Nitro in the ring. Carlito has been kicked to the outside and is still out. Nitro misses a standing moonsault. Shelton goes for a powerbomb, but Nitro reverses it into a rollup. He can’t get the pin and then Carlito jumps off the ropes and hits sunset flip on Shelton. All three men start brawling now. They double team Carlito and hit an Irish whip him. Nitro throws Shelton into Carlito, but Carlito moves and clotheslines Shelton. Carlito tries to launch Shelton but he lands on his feet, grabs Nitro and lauches him instead. Carlito runs down Shelton with a clothesline and Nitro starts punching him. Both exchange blows until Carlito hits a standing hurricarana. Carlito tries to suplex Shelton, but Shelton reverses midair into a DDT. Shelton covers Carlito, but Melina puts Carlito’s foot on the ropes to save the match for Nitro. Shelton starts yelling at Melina and this distractions allows Nitro to rollup Carlito with a hand full of tights. Winner and still Intercontinental Champion, Johnny Nitro.
Diva Search Contestant Layla says Melina should be the next to go.
Randy Orton comes to the ring. He says he’s going to kill Hulkamania which will launch his career into movies and books. Orton has been offered his own reality show and he introduces it as “Orton Knows Best.” Orton introduces the cast and impersonators of Hulk Hogan, Linda Hogan, Brooke and Nick come out. Orton asks Nick what he wants to be when he grows up and Nick says he wants to a wrestler like his dad. Orton kicks Nick in the gut and throws him out of the ring. Hulk gets in Orton’s face, but Orton backs up and tells him to relax. Hulk grabs the mic and says Orton does not know best, but Hogan knows best. Orton tells Hogan that it’s cute that he’s the overprotective dad, but at SummerSlam he’s going to kiss his career goodbye. And meantime he has a little kiss in mind. Orton takes Brooke and starts making out with her. Afterwards he RKO’s Hogan, slaps King and leaves.
Backstage, Estrada thanks Vince for the match with HBK. He congratulates both men for their granddaughter and gives them a Cuban cigar. Vince asks Estrada if he has more and he tells them he has three more boxes. Vince tells him to get them.
The King challenges Randy Orton to a match next week because he wants to whip some respect into his ass.
Diva Search Contestant Erica wants to eliminate Rebecca.
Our next match is Trish Stratus & Candice Michelle vs Mickie James & Victoria with special guest referee Torrie Wilson. Candice and Victoria start off. Victoria throws Candice down first. Fireman’s carry take over by Candice and a knee drop to the shoulder. Candice goes to work on Victoria’s shoulder with stomps and a holds. Victoria comes back with a knee to the face. Mickie tags in and enters the ring by hitting Candice in the shoulder. Shots by Candice, but a throw down by Mickie. Kick to the face by Mickie and a slam by the hair. Yet another throw down by Mickie, but Candice gets the tag to Trish. Trish cleans house with chops on Mickie and kicks Victoria out. Back elbow by Mickie, but Trish hits a powerbomb when Mickie tries to give her a hurricarana. Trish follows with Stratusfaction and gets the pinfall.
Backstage, Foley is congratulating Nitro for his successful title defense. Foley asks Melina to introduce him since he hasn’t been on RAW in six weeks. She agrees and the two walk off to the ring.
Diva Search Contestant thinks Erica should be the next Diva to be eliminated.
In the arena, Melina introduces Mick Foley. Foley has decided to give the fans what they want and take on Flair tonight. Actually, Mick is joking and he will not be competing tonight. Foley says he has pointed out the differences between him and Flair, but now he’ll point out the similarities. Flair helped out younger talent like Orton. Foley helped out younger talent like Melina. Flair is a friend of the President of the United States. Foley is a friend of pornstar Christy Canyon. Foley has made national headlines by publishing books and Flair has made national headlines by his alleged road rage incident. “Whoooooooo” Flair’s music hits and he comes to the ring. Flair tells Foley to shut his mouth because Flair vs Foley has been a long time coming. No one cares that Foley wrote a book or that he is Cactus Jack. Flair does hasn’t forgotten the 19 stitches that Foley put in his head. Flair knows the Foley tasted his blood at Vengeance, but not he wants to taste his. Nails, thumbtacks, barbed wire, cages, ladders, Flair wants it all at SummerSlam. Flair challenges Foley to a hardcore match. Foley breaks out of the corner and starts yelling at Flair. But Foley oversteps the line and insults Flair by calling him an absentee father. Flair gets in Foley’s face, but Foley calms him down. But once again he steps over the line by bringing up how Flair told his kids he’d been arrested. Flair punches Foley and Foley rolls out of the ring. Jonathan Coachman comes out and announces that Flair vs Foley is on for SummerSlam. But Foley says that he is current contract doesn’t call for him to wrestle and he will not waste a match on Flair.
Diva Search Contestant Rebecca doesn’t care who leaves, just as long as she stays.
In the next match John Cena takes on Matt Striker. Edge & Lita are doing color commentary from Edge’s own announce table on stage. Cena easily makes Striker tap by the STFU. Afterwards, Cena motions to Edge that he’ll be taking the title from him when they wrestle in the main event at SummerSlam.
Rory of The Highlanders beats Johnny of The Spirit Squad.
We find out that Rebecca is the next Diva Search Contestant to be eliminated by the fans.
Backstage cops walk into DX’s locker room. The cops got a tip that DX has contraband in their room. The cops search around and find boxes of Cuban cigars in HHH’s bag. They take HHH away for further questioning as HBK just watches. As the cops and HHH leave, they pass the McMahon’s in the hall. HHH quickly figures out it was Vince’s doing as he just plays dumb.
In the final match of the night, HBK takes on Umaga. The match goes back and forth, by HBK doesn’t back down. He is about to Superkick Umaga, but Shane interferes while the ref is distracted by Estrada. HBK is able to take care of Shane, but Umaga blasts back with a clothesline for the win. Afterwards, Shane & Vince double team HBK in the corner. Vince takes off his belt and starts whipping HBK in the corner. He then chokes HBK with the belt. Shane grabs a chair and gives it to Vince. Vince holds the chair up to HBK’s face and Shane Superkicks it. The chair slams into HBK’s face and he’s out. The McMahon’s celebrate as RAW goes off the air.
RAW had some good moments and then some boring ones.
The Flair/Foley segment was awesome. I cannot wait to see these two at SummerSlam. I don’t care if it’s a regular match or a hardcore one, I just wanna see them both. Great great promo.
The Intercontinental match was easily the highlight of the night. These guys have put on great matches and every time I see them it’s entertaining. Reminds me of TNA’s X Division or the old Cruiserweight days of WCW. Another good match.
The diva match was good too because Candice impressed me. Doesn’t anyone realize that Trish’s Stratusfaction rests soley on the opponent. Trish can’t jump that high and if they doesn’t lift her the move looks pathetic and kills the ending.
Other than that, everything was pretty boring to me at least. This McMahon/DX thing better stop at SummerSlam because I’m getting really tired of it. Oh yea, the Orton segment was stupid. It might have looked good on paper and it was a good idea, but it didn’t come off well on TV.

Yeah I agree. I kind of thought the Foley/Flair segment took too long but it was good. I Orton segment was stupid and rediculous didn’t interest me one bit. The Women’s match was alright too. I just wished WWE had more matches like the Intercontinental Championship Match because it was very good. Also the DX segment at the beginning was the worst they ever did and it was very boring. I hope the DX thing stops at Summerslam too because I’m really starting to miss the heel Triple H.
Also WHERE IN THE HELL IN KANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND WHY IS BIG SHOW FACING ALL THESE RANDOM PEOPLE all though he does have very good matches with them and I mean VERY GOOD matches. We’re just gonna have to see what happens. I just wish there was another draft lottery or something to make RAW and Smackdown very interesting.
My rating for RAW tonight: 6/10 not that interesting
I predict the Wrestlemania 23 Main Event will be:
World Heavyweight Championship
Batista vs. John Cena

Yeah hat goes off to the Intercontinental title match and Flair/Foley. Also Booker T on Smackdown is a great champion. He actually let Mysterio get moves in, making the match interesting. Booker T is the man, other than these three and HBK dive WWE has been boring.
Just got to say it one more time, Booker T is the man.

I disagree with ShaDow….the Flair/Foley segment wasn’t too long. It was great, I wished it lasted all night!!!! Ric Flair is past his prime…..us Flair fanatics have been wanting to see the Ric Flair that we all know and love. On July 31, 2006 Ric Flair performed the classic Nature Boy persona that made the man. Even us hardcore Flair fans have been feeling lately, that it is time for the man to hang up his legacy and then he displays this. McMahon should wake up and see that what we got to see was Flair at his finest with the microphone. Foley was great in the fact that he kept quiet and stepped out of Flair’s spotlight. They let those guys have a free for all with the microphone…..I guarantee that every wrestler in the back was glued to the monitor watching the classic Ric Flair in action! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Diamond-Yeah Booker T is a great champion. I ‘ve been waiting for him to win the World Title again for years and it’s even better that be won the former WCW Championship for now he’s a 6 TIME CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!
R.Keane-The segment was very good but I thought it was alittle too long. Probably because I’m not a big fans of most 80s wreslers (except Hogan, Andre, and Snuka.) But even though it was long doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Flair showed that he’s not just some old retard bastard. He showed that he still has what made him famous like 30 years ago.
Raw is boring the hell out of me, DX is an empty shell out what they once were. Michaels loss wasn’t a push for watered down Samoa Joe but rather just more hype for the mcmahons v. dx match. the ic match was awesome and the foley/flair segment felt real which was awesome.
got a feeling hogan/orton will be the main event match at summerslam which is going to suck, this whole match and feud just feels like a giant hogan knows best/brook cd plug-a-thon.
smackdown has been awesome these last few weeks, finely and “that little bastard” aregreat and booker t is the f**king man, long live king booker.
Can You Dig that Booker T is the 6 time champion. Shadow, I also have been waiting and finally he has done it. See the belt seems worthy now as Booker knows how to be a World Champion. Who ever wins the belt next, will get a real rub.
On another note how old do you think Flair is? I keep hearing his in his late 50s, but I think he really is in his 60s. Any one agree he looks like a senior citizen.
-Nathaniel- I hear ya, RAW has been slipping lately. I haven’t seen Smackdown in months though, maybe it’s time I watch it again.
Ric Flair is 57 years of age…. will be 58 in February.
Ric Flair look like he is 70, man he is old, no offence to any one.
You guys need to start doing smackdown reports the same as you do raw… since mania… well hell since the day after the royal rumble raw has just been boring and predictable as hell, and smackdown has finally (after almost two years) picked up again by pushing Book, the finely/lashley kind of have a not as good but still pretty good angle/lesnar thing going on.
I think it sucks that raw has four matches already at summerslam, keep thinking that smackdown and ecw will get two maybe three, but most likely two. DX v. the McMahons and Orton/Hogan are two great spots to take a breather and grab a drink to bad both matches will be around twenty minutes long thus bumping back the rest of the card. Anyone else want to see CM Punk v. Kurt Angle?
There is nothing to watch on Smackdown though!! Nobody to watch - putting a cruiserweight as the heavyweight champ shows that…. RAW has been entertaining in some respects, and really dire in some other ones! BUT Smackdown has consistently been crap! ITs for the Kids, no real interest for me.
[...] NEWS: |Matt B| RAW is in Memphis, Tennessee tonight as Shane & Vince McMahon, dressed as Elvis Presley, gloat about how they got HHH arrested last week (07.31.06). Not only that, they had HBK destroyed in the main event. And tonight, HHH will be the one facing Umaga. Vince puts an end to their little fun and says with a mean face, “Elvis has left the building.” [...]
