NEWS: |Matt B|Saturday Night’s Main Event comes to us live from Dallas tonight and the show kicks off with Hulk Hogan and Brooke Hogan coming to the ring. Brooke says she has always dreamt of the moment where she stood side by side with her dad. It’s truly an honor for Brooke to be here and she thanks the fans. Hulk gets on the mic and reminisces about his first appearance on Saturday Night’s Main Event. And through all these years Hulkamania is still running wild. Randy Orton’s music hits and he comes to the ring with a single rose in hand. Orton says there was no way he would pass up the chance to stand next to a legend. He also didn’t want to give up the chance to meet Brooke. Orton hands Brooke the rose. Orton addresses Hogan and respectfully challenges Hulk to a match at SummerSlam considering Hulk is a legend and he is the legend killer. Hogan respectfully accepts the challenge and shakes hands with Randy Orton.

First match of the night is a six man tag between Finlay, Booker T & Mark Henry and Bobby Lashley, Batista & WWE Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio. Lashley and Finlay start the match. Lashley overpowers Finlay and all six man enter the ring. They all have a shouting match as the ref tries to regain order. Commercial. When we come back, Mysterio is fighting out of Finlay’s hold. Mysterio gets out, but he is knocked back down and in another choke hold. Both men get to their feet and Mysterio fights back with a kick to the gut and a moonsault from the ropes. All hell breaks loose and the ref is easily distracted. This allows Finlay to bring out his leprechaun and double team Mysterio. Batista gets back in the ring and saves Mysterio. Order is restored and Booker beats down Mysterio before tagging in Henry. Head butt by Henry, but he misses the splash in the corner. Kicks by Mysterio, dropkick to the head and he tags in Batista. Batista rushes in, but the ref holds him back because he never saw the tag. Booker T tags in and continues to stomp Mysterio. Mysterio gets back up and hits a hurricarana and finally tags in Batista. Batista cleans house with scoop slams and spinebusters. Batista is firing up and signals the end for Booker. 619 by Mysterio, Batista Bomb by Batista and the pinfall. Winners Batista, Lashley & Rey Mysterio.

Backstage Vince McMahon is pumping up The Spirit Squad. He tells them that tonight they will destroy Degeneration X. But there’s a surprise tonight because there will be special holding cells for the eliminated wrestlers. Then we go to a split screen where DX is on one half and Vince & The Squad are on the other. DX pulls another gag and starts voicing over Vince’s meeting. They make jokes about Vince wanting to be spanked and how the Spirit Squad will lose tonight in their Elimination Match.

Clip shown of the Diva Bull Riding contest that happened earlier. The finals will be on air tonight between Victoria and Michelle McCool.

Next match of the night is Melina & Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro and Carlito & Trish Stratus. Carlito and Nitro start the match, but then Nitro tags in Melina. So Carlito must tag in Trish and he does so as the women start the match. Both women slug it out as Trish gains the upperhand. Trish bounces off the ropes but Nitro trips her. Chops by Trish in the corner and then the two throw each other by the hair. The men come in and Carlito hits a dropkick and a modified slam. Carlito follows with the Backcracker and picks up the win for his team.

Degeneration X vs The Spirit Squad in an Elimination Match is next up. HBK starts the match against Mikey. The ref is distracted and the rest of the squad run in. HBK takes care of them and even uses the megaphone against them. Superkick by HBK on Mitch and he is eliminated. Commercial. When we come back DX is cleaning house. HHH hits a spinebuster on Johnny and gets the pinfall. Now it’s Kenny taking on HBK. Kenny seems to be walking out of the match until HBK catches up to him on the stage. Then from the back comes Vince. Vince smacks a chair in the back of HBK and he goes down fast. DX looks to be in trouble, but they eventually fight back even with Vince’s interference. DX is able to defeat The Squad and throw them all into the cell. Vince runs over and tries to break them free and he does. But as soon as Vince turns around, HBK superkicks him into the cage and they close the door. DX climb on top of the cell and celebrate their win.

In the ring are The Great Khali and Daivari. Daivari tells The Undertaker that Khali is the true phenom of the WWE and he’ll find that out at The Great American Bash. Suddenly, Big Show & Heyman come out. Big Show agrees that Khali is a “big boy,” but he is 7 foot, 500 pounds of Extreme Championship Wrestling Champion. Show tells him that he is here to hand it to Khali because he has destroyed The Undertaker – GONG! The lights go out, smoke fills the arena and The Undertaker steps out. He slowly walks to the ring and stares down Big Show and Khali. Taker attacks Khali and clotheslines him out of the arena. Big Show attacks Taker next and the two exchange blows. Both men go back and forth until Khali gets back in the fight. Big Show and Khali wrap their hands around Taker and give him a double chokeslam.

Backstage Todd catches up with Big Show. Show tells them that The Undertaker and The Great Khali are no match for him considering he is the ECW Heavyweight Champion. Big Show issues a challenge to the Undertaker for a match on ECW next Tuesday.

In an Extreme Rules match, Sabu takes on Stevie Richards. Sabu starts the match by throwing a chair in Stevie’s face. He then uses the chair to hit a leg drop in the corner and follows with the Triple Jump Moonsault. Sabu cannot get the pin that follows and so he slides a table into the ring. Sabu sets up the table, but Stevie goes on the attack. He beats Sabu down in the corner and then goes for a Bronco Buster but misses. Sabu takes advantage and puts Stevie on the table. He climbs to the top rope, jumps and slams the chair on Stevie. The table breaks away, Sabu makes the pin and gets the win.

Backstage in the parking lot we see Randy Orton talking to Brooke Hogan as her newest music video is played. After the short clip Hogan slaps Orton on the back and says, “See you at SummerSlam brother!” Orton puts his hands up and respectfully leaves. Hogan opens the car door for Brooke and lets her in. Hogan walks around the car as he heads for the driver’s seat, but Orton comes out of nowhere and RKO’s Hogan straight on the trunk. Orton leans over Hogan just staring as Brooke runs out and asks her dad what happened. Orton says nothing and leaves as a backstage worker also checks on Hogan. The worker tells Hogan that he fell hard as Hogan is still out of it.

The finals of the Diva Bull Riding Contest is up. McCool goes first and then lasts 12 seconds. Victoria comes out next and lasts 7 seconds. Victoria is pissed as McCool celebrates. Victoria grabs the ruler out of McCool’s hands and breaks it in half.

In the main event of the night, John Cena takes on Edge for the WWE Championship. Edge plays mind games with Cena in the beginning which costs Cena because he ends up toppling over the ropes as we go to commercial. When we come back Edge is kicking Cena in the gut and then clotheslines him to the mat. Edge places Cena on the top rope and goes for a Superplex, but he looses his footing and both men fall straight down to the mat with Edge still able to pull off the move. Edge comes back with some shots and then kicks Cena right in the face. Edge cannot get the pin as the two exchange blows over and over. Cena comes back with a clothesline, shoulder block and a slam. Successfully Five Knuckle Shuffle by Cena and the he lifts Edge up for the FU. Cena successfully hits his finisher as Cena makes the pin…1…2…LITA PULLS THE REF OUT! Cena approaches Lita as she backs away. From behind, Edge tries to Spear Cena, but Cena sidesteps, grabs Edge and locks in the STFU. Edge is in pain as he is tapping, but Lita still keeps the ref out of the ring and then slaps him hard. The ref calls for the bell and Cena is overjoyed. He thinks he won the title, but he only won the match due to a disqualification and not the title. Edge Spears Cena afterwards and then celebrates with Lita near the announce booth. Cena gets up again and attacks Edge. He slams Edge into the announcers booth, slams a TV monitor into his face and then lifts him up for the FU. It looks like Cena is going to FU Edge on the booth, but instead he steps up the steel steps, jumps off and FU’s Edge through the booth.

July 16th, 2006: Henry Injured in Six Man Match, Out 8 Months

What a boring show. I wouldn’t say it sucked like RAW did this past Monday, but it was extremely boring.

The best part of the night was Orton giving the RKO onto Hogan on the trunk. That was just perfect.

Let’s see what else was good….hmmm….what else…….oh yea…NOTHING! The Carlito/Trish/Melina/Nitro match was a huge disappointment because we all know the match was booked wrong. These four people can put on a great match and it just sucked tonight.

The Bull Riding Contest was a waste of time and so was the DX match. It was stupid….just plain stupid and very predictable.

The only real match I enjoyed was seeing Sabu beat up Stevie Richards. Seeing Big Show get involved in Taker/Khali was alright too, but nothing special.

The main event was boring too, but it was cool to see Cena FU Edge from the steps.

Another let down by WWE. Is this what the McMahon’s promised you NBC? Poor wrestling and lots of fireworks?

Matt B, I agree, a boring show for the most part.

Well this sucks now WWE might not have anymore SNME’s if this 1 doesn’t get a good rating. Anyway something was wrong with my TV so I couldn’t watch SNME but I guess I didn’t miss anything good so I don’t care.

SNME are boring becuase they dont fit in with the times. Wrestling has evolved and this is in the past.

If WWE was smart they would let Johnny Nitro have one on one matches, he has the look of a wrestler that can go far. Really get him over and give him proo time.

Forget Trish, while Melina she just needs to be a manager.

If Nitro is not pushed far enough, another potential main eventer will be done. Charlie Haas is another who has a wrestlers look but no main storyline for him.

  5. [...] NEWS: |WWE| Mark Henry was injured at Saturday Night’s Main Event (07.15.06). Henry injured his patella in the six man tag match and is expected to be out of action for several months. -Diamond- Yeah if WWE can push Johnny Nitro enough he could end up being a good main eventer like Christian could have been.

That wasn’t Sabu’s night. First the table collapses before he jumps, and then he pulls of a comparitively half-assed jump-chair shot.

I was at this show (with pretty good seats, you might have seen my “Hogan fears Arthritis or “Cena>Edge” signs on tv) and I started laughing when the table broke. I knew it was too far away in the first place, and then Sabu tried to move it with Stevie on it…pulling it in that direction, what else did he think would happen.

Not sure if Stevie was ready for the Arabian facebuster after the match, but he sold it well.

The show doesn’t look like it came off too well on television, but it was fun to be at.

Oh, and everyone around me thought Mark Henry was having a heart attack. That’s really what it looked like.

  10. [...] Our next match is Randy Orton vs Eugene. Drop toe hold by Orton, kick to the gut, shots to the back and an Irish whip into the ropes. Orton drops his head and Eugene kicks him in the chest. Eugene imitates Orton’s pose and then Orton snaps back with a clothesline, shots straight to the face and a modified backbreaker. Orton finishes off Eugene with the RKO and gets the pinfall. Afterwards, Orton tells Eugene to never take advantage of of the McMahon’s, just like he would never take advantage of Brooke Hogan. Orton tells the crowd that she is one pretty girl. Her new single “About Us” is one of his favorites, but this is his all time favorite hit: A clip of Saturday Night’s Main Event (07.15.06) is played where Orton respectfully challenged Hogan to a match and then RKO’d him on the trunk of a car backstage. Orton tells Brooke that he hopes what happened between Hulk and him will not affect their potential relationship. [...]

  12. [...] Hulk Hogan comes out to the arena. The fans give Hogan a huge ovation. Hogan reminds everyone that Orton came out on Saturday Night’s Main Event (07.15.06) to challenge him. In fact, Orton lectured him on respect and was then disrespected that same night. When SummerSlam rolls around, Hogan plans to beat some respect into him. Randy Orton comes out to the stage. He tells Hogan that he’s not here to talk to him, he’s here to talk to him about Brooke. Hogan tells Orton to stop right now, but Orton continues. He says there’s some serious chemistry between the two of them, but Hulk probably can’t see it since he’s old and losing his sight. Brooke really fell for Orton, but he tells Hogan that it’s a shame she’ll see him kill Hulkamania. Hogan doesn’t want to wait for SummerSlam and tells them they should do it now. Orton marches to the ring and hops on the apron. Hogan comes forward, but Orton drops down immediately. He circles the ring and tries to get in again. But as soon as Hogan charges, Orton drops down again. Orton almost gets in a scuffle with King and King takes exception so he throws Orton into the ring. Hogan gives Orton a few right hands and then goes for the big boot. Orton stops short and then slides out the ring. [...]
