Kurt Angle Pumped
Posted on June 4th, 2006 by Matt B
NEWS: |WWE PWInsider| Kurt Angle will be in action at One Night Stand 2. He has issued an open challenge to any brand whether they wrestle in a 4 sided, 6 sided or 8 sided ring.
WWE taking shots at TNA…I love it. I wonder if TNA will answer back? They probably won’t, but I think they should.
This might be the very beginning of a TNA/WWE war.

Isn’t the 8 sided ring thing taking a shot at UFC? Wait how many sides does an octagon have lol?
Yep UFC is 8 sided ring, but a UFC fighter like Tito Ortiz would destroy Angle.
I don’t know about that. Angle has alot more weight than Ortiz and has alot of wrestling experience from being in the olympics.
Also some people say WWE superstars can’t fight in real life or in UFC well tell that to guys like Steve Blackman and Ken Shamrock.
Let’s just wait and see who’ll take the challenge, and i still dunno if this is scripted or not (if ever another TNA star is gonna jump ship-hope someone big in TNA)
KURT WOULD DESTROY ANYBODY FROMUFC THEY SUCK GET REAL JERK.
Umm Ken Shamrock was an MMA/UFC fighter before he came to WWE!!! He had to be trained into how to “wrestle” in WWE so he didnt hurt anyone. What the hell has steve blackman got to do with anything? Ken Shamrock fair enough, maybe your thinking of Dan Severn - who was also MMA before WWE/F
Sorry but if Kurt Angle walked into a UFC fight tomorrow he would get annihalited - you need months of training to be good enough. Add that the most competitive level Angle has wrestled at is the olympics, he would get killed.
I think this is scripted, they probably have signed up a TNA wrestler, maybe Rhino.
UFC is real hard and it requires intensive training, any UFC fighter would snap KURT ANGLES neck.
If any one thinks that UFC sucks, look at the reaction by UFC fighters. They all laughed at the idea that Kurt Angle can beat them. If I remember correctly Puder beat Kurt Angle with lesser experience, only a corrupt referee cost him the win.
I guess they just don’t know what UFC fighters can dish out..
BTW puders a grappler right?
what i don’t like with UFC is the time they stay down on the floor hugging like 2 guys from brokeback mountain..
Angle in his prime would stand as fair as chance as anyone else in ufc, however due to the amount of injuries he has, including the seriously touchy neck, him stepping into a ufc fight would just be stupid… he’s just not healthy enough as this time to survive.
But to assume Angle wouldn’t hold his own in ufc based on the fact he is a wrestler is a bit laughable. Angle is an amateur wrestler, one of the best the countries ever produced. Injury free he could have a good run in ufc with some intresting fights, he wouldn’t be the baddest nor toughest guy out there but he would hold his own just fine.
The comment by Paul Heyman was more then likely just that, a comment. It’d be nice to think that the WWE’s vision for the new ECW would allow it to carry some of the unpredictablity of the old ECW (which bringing in a TNA wrestler for a one shot appeareance at ONS2 would be cool) but I highly doubt it.
Yeah thats the only problem with UFC is the brokeback mountain style hugging or shall we say the brokenback.
Angle in his prime could hold it, but still its a tall task as these UFC fighters are like street fighters tough as nails.
wrestlingnewsworld is a racist website, as it banned me but a person insulting Mexicans is still on there. Impact Wrestling sucks also, THE WRESTLING BLOG IS THE BEST……….
Wow me and Diamond agree on something for a change!
The big thing about UFC is that its a mixture of different styles, even an amateur wrestler would have to learn new styles to fight in UFC, you couldnt just go in as a an ameteur wrestler - as its completely different sport.
Even angle in his prime would have to do a hell of alot of training and learning new styles to even challange a semi decent UFC fighter.
Threads like this remind me why I stopped posting here.
The only reason any UFC fighter would have a chance against Angle is because of his numerous injuries. A healthy Angle would easily destroy anyone in UFC. You people have no clue the level of training and expertise it takes to be an Olympic wrestler, apparently.
Also, there will be no “WWE/TNA War.” McMahon has no reason to provide TNA with that kind of publicity.
-Johnson- u said what Steve Blackman has to do with anything well….Steve Blackman is a martial artist and owns a martial arts school
Kurt weighs more than most UFC guys so he would be hard to knock down. Also I think he has both wrestling and fighting skills
We were talking about UFC though - Steve Blackman has been nowhere near that.
The problem you dont seem to recognise is that the last competitive fighting KUrt Angle did was the olympics, 10 years ago!! WWE is physical and you need to be atheletic - but its not competitive in any way- its staged to entertain and thus a completely different egg to UFC. Which is real intense competition. Like i say, i dont doubt Angles atheletic ability - but he would have to change his style and train for months to even compete with a sub standard UFC fighter.
Hadley Rille> Kurt Angle is no longer an Olympic Athlete, he hasnt been for 10 years, so i think you have no idea about Kurts current abilities rather than what it takes at Olympic level.
As I already stated, Angle would likely not be competitive due to his multiple injuries. Aside from that, however, the notion that any UFC fighter would be even remotely competitive with an Olympic wrestler is just ridiculous. Arguments to the contrary just paint you as a mark.
I still don’t think Angle (being a technical wrestler) is a good choice for ECW since they’re more about hardcore. Still this could be interesting. I wonder who Angle will wrestle.
Also I like the idea of a fight between TNA and WWE/ECW. Oddly this might actually help TNA by getting more WWE fans to look at the TNA product.
Oddly this might actually help TNA by getting more WWE fans to look at the TNA product.
Obviously, which is why it won’t happen unless at some point Vince makes an offer too lucrative for Panda Energy to pass up.
I think that if Kurt really wanted to be a UFC fighter he could be a great one. Sure he would have to learn how to punch and kick and take a beating but the very fact that he won an olympic gold medal after recovering from a broken neck proves that Kurt can do anything he puts his mind to if he wants it enough. Don’t foget that Dan Severn was mainly an amateur wrestler with limited “fighting” abilities when he first started in UFC and destroyed nearly everyone who steppped into the ring with him. Even allot of the best UFC fighters today are the ones with great wrestling skills and Kurt Angle is the best wrestler in the world.
What we have here are a bunch of arm chair warrior wannabes..
UFC and MMA in general requires an extreme amount of training, dedication, and heart…!! the “BROKEBACK HUGGING” as you freakin morons have called it is GRAPPLING, specifically, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Shooto, CSW, etc. It requires just as much if not more training than Olympic style wrestling.. In fact, some of the legends of the MMA sport have come from WRESTLING backgrounds.. i.e. Randy Couture, Mark Kerr, Don Frye, Tom Erikson, Ron Waterman, Mike Van Arsdale, Dan Puder, Josh Barnett, Matt Hughes, etc.
These guys all wresled on the Regional, national, and International level, and made the transition to MMA.
I like WWE style wrestling, its ENTERTAINMENT, not a sport.. It requires a HUGE level of athleticism, and attributes like agility, body control, and stamina.
Any od the current WWE style wrestlers with an elite amateur background, like Kurt Angle, COULD do well in MMA with INTENSIVE, SPORT SPECIFIC Cross Training, in arts like Muay Thai, BJJ, Shooto, Boxing, etc.
To make a blanket statement that anyone like Angle healthy or not could not compete on a level of an olympic wrestler (Like Hadley Rille and others have alluded to above), is ludicrous. My statement does not paint me as a mark, Hadley, it illustrates the level of ignorance you have regarding mixed martial arts specifically and martial arts in general. I have studied and trained for over 26 years, and I feel I am well qualified to speak on the subject. I suggest that the following quote applies here…
“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt..”
David
I mis-stated the last paragraph.. What I meant to say was that,
“…To make a blanket statement that no-one in MMA could not compete on a level of an olympic wrestler like Angle (as Hadley Rille and others have alluded to above), is ludicrous…”
Sorry for the mis-quote, and the few typos in the post above this one..
Dave
I agree with you David. I think any of these “elite” COULD be great in MMA if they have the heart and the will to learn the skill. When it really comes down to it, it IS all about the will. Isn’t it? How hard and how long are you willing to train? How hard are you willing to stay focused and mentaly disaplined? How much are you willing to learn and listen to your teachers?
This Kurt Angle is the best wah wah, he can beat any one statements, are utter basic WWE fan statements.
People say Kurt Angle won a medal, ok but it was in 96, Angle is calling people out now. So he thinks he can beat UFC fighters, he didnt say after my training program, he said now.
This is why UFC will respond as they know that there guys can beat Angle any day of the week.
The question is which is more tougher, UFC or Olympic wrestling.
Figure that out for your selves and you will know if Angle can cut it in UFC………………
You have got to be kidding me. Kurt Angle would have NO CHANCE in a UFC match. The guy just wrestles. Yes he’s an olympic wrestler, but he’d get pummled to oblivion if he stepped in the Octagon with any decent MMA fighter.
Mark agree with you 100% but tel that to the WWE marks.
If You guys think UFC is real. I’d think again.
………..Anyway, if a match (not fixed) between Angle and let’s say Shamrock were to take place. I would put my money on Angle. He is the greatest shoot wretler of all-time. No UFC champ has ever competed at the level of Kurt Angle in his prime.
What level, the olympics are full of poor former communist block countries, he would beat them. But UFC is hard and require more than being a one trick jimmy…………….
kurt angle is an amazing athlete! He got his rib’s broke and still wrestled ray the next week.he’s tougher than anyone in ufc!lets just see what happens when a guy from ufc breaks his freaking rib’s and see what they got left!and another thing you people have to remember when in the olympic’s he wrestled a guy that weighed 100 more pounds than he did!
