NEWS: |Matt B|One more episode of RAW before WrestleMania 22 Weekend…
Backstage, Vince says tonight he will actually wrestle the WWE Champion John Cena. In the interest of fairness, HBK will compete tonight against HHH as he is in the fast lane on the highway to hell.
In the arena, Mick Foley comes out with two long, red boxes. He leaves one box on the ramp and brings the other to the ring. Foley says next Sunday he will wrestle Edge in a Hardcore Match at WrestleMania. But, that does not give him the right to shove his fingers down Lita’s throat (last week RAW 03.20.06). That was wrong. So in order to make up to Lita, he brings out roses from the box. But, his other box is a gift for Edge. Lita & Edge come out at the request of Foley. Edge says Foley cost him the title and he should be main eventing this Sunday. Foley cuts him off and says it’s not about the money or anything…it’s about that defining WrestleMania moment. It’s about carving Edge up, the kids screaming, the pitter patter of blood drops and most of all, it’s about hearing the ring announcer announce Foley as the winner. Foley asks Edge to open up the box and Edge does so cautiously. He reaches in and pulls out a baseball bat. Edge smiles and marches down the ramp with bat in hand, but Foley reaches in his own box and pulls out a barbed wire baseball bat. Edge is shocked and immediately jumps out of the ring. Foley follows and swings for Edge’s head, but Edge ducks it and retreats through the crowd. A video montage plays of Foley’s past hardcore matches. When we come back into the arena, Foley is sitting in the corner of ring with the barbed wire baseball bat as Cactus Jack’s music plays.
In the first match of the night, Carlito and Kane face each other again. Carlito gets an early advantage by attacking Kane with punches and kicks. Carlito jumps on Kane’s back and applies the sleeper. But Kane throws him off his back and kicks Carlito down. Carlito slowly gets up and Kane punches him several times and clotheslines him twice. Side slam by Kane and then a flying clothesline. Carlito is still in it as he delivers a dropkick to the knee and a DDT. Carlito jumps on the ropes and leaps, but Kane catches him by the throat. Carlito is desperate and he pulls the ref right into Kane. The ref immediately calls for the bell and Kane is pissed. Carlito runs to the back and Kane follows. Backstage, Carlito finds a corner and puts his hands up. Kane grabs Carlito and out of nowhere, Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch and Chris Masters jump him. Kane is beaten down and thrown into a closet. Masters jumps on a forklift and parks it right in front of the doors effectively locking him in. Then, Big Show appears and starts beating everyone down. He calls to Kane and tells him that he’s going to push the forklift since he can’t find the keys.
In the arena, Masters & Carlito come out gloating. We return backstage and see that Big Show has almost pushed the forklift out of the way. But, Kane comes walking out from around the corner. He gets Show’s attention and Show asks him how he got out. Kane tells him that there was another door. Show is confused and says Masters & Carlito are not very smart after all. They look at each other and agree to go after them. Back in the arena, Masters & Carlito look at each other and cannot believe there was another door.
Commercial.
When we come back, Masters informs the crowd that him & Carlito will walk out of WrestleMania as the tag champs. Masters also adds that not even Show can break the Master Lock Challenge. Big Show & Kane hit the ring and Kane runs after Carlito. Carlito immediately exits through the crowd and Kane lets him leave. Meanwhile, Big Show gets in the ring and accepts the Master Lock Challenge. Show sits in the chair and Masters slowly applies the full nelson. But, Masters is having trouble interlocking his fingers. Masters complains and says Show is all “greased up” and trying to cheat. The ref hands Show a towel and Show “dries” off. Once again, Masters tries to apply the Master Lock, but his arms are not long enough. Masters is pissed and instead attacks Show. Show fends Masters off and chokeslams him. Kane joins him in the ring and explodes the ring posts as the current Tag Team Champions raise their titles.
It’s announced that Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child will sing “America the Beautiful” at WrestleMania 22 this Sunday, April 2nd.
It’s announced that Tony Atlas will inducted into the Hall of Fame by S.D. Jones.
Backstage, HBK is walking to the ring for his match with HHH.
Both HHH and HBK make their entrance to the ring. The match goes back and forth with both men countering each other and exchanging blow after blow. HBK clotheslines HHH to the outside, but HHH pulls him out. HBK throws HHH onto the announce table and throws him over the barricade. HBK follows into the crowd and then back body drops HHH back near ringside. Both men get back into the ring and HHH delivers a face buster. He beats HBK in the corner, but HBK fights outs. HBK hops on the second rope and jumps, but HHH nails him and goes for The Pedigree. HBK fights out and back body drops HHH all the way to the outside. HHH crashes hard. On the ramp, Vince comes walking out as go to commercial.
When we come back, HHH delivers a spinebuster to HBK. Delayed vertical suplex by HHH, knee drop and punches. HHH follows up with more punches, but HBK punches back, but HHH nails him with an elbow. HBK is thrown to the outside and HHH follows as he slams HBK’s face into the steel steps. HHH tries to do it again, but HBK counters and slams HHH’s face into the steps. HBK follows up by throwing HHH into the steps before they both get back into the ring. HBK gains steam by punching HHH and hitting a flying forearm. HBK pops up and hits two atomic drops. HBK bounces off the ropes, but Vince grabs his leg. HHH grabs HBK and locks him into The Pedigree, but HBK counters and slingshots him into Vince. Vince falls and HBK delivers a scoop slam and an elbow drop. HBK tunes up the band, but Vince once again grabs him. HBK grabs Vince and delivers a straight punch to him which sends him all the way to the floor. HHH grabs HBK and successfully hits The Pedigree. HBK is out and Vince climbs into the right and holds HBK up. HHH grabs the sledgehammer, but Cena comes to the rescue. Vince rolls out of the ring and HHH and Cena stare at each other. HHH extends his arm out of the ring and drops and the sledgehammer. The two exchange blows, but Cena quickly knocks HHH out of the ring. Both HHH & Vince retreat up the ramp while Cena looks over HBK.
Backstage, Vince McMahon tells Todd that Cena can have HBK in his corner tonight because Vince will have HHH.
In the arena, Ric Flair comes to the ring with a ladder already set up. Flair says his first WrestleMania was number VIII and he lost the World Title. Many people thought it would be his last title run, but he went on to become a 16 time champion. And now, Flair is destined to be a 17 time champion. At WrestleMania 22 this Sunday, Flair will scale the ladder and take the Money in the Bank. Shelton Benjamin interrupts and says it’s reality check time. Check one, Shelton was born with more athletic ability. Check two, Flair should be the last person to be in this match because he will not win. Check three, WrestleMania will be Shelton’s night. Flair starts chopping Shelton, but Shelton hits a Samoan Drop. Shelton climbs the ladder, but RVD comes down and pulls him down hard. RVD unfolds the ladder, places Shelton on it and hits the Rolling Thunder. RVD tells both Flair and Shelton that this Sunday it’s every man for themselves. Flair pokes RVD in the eye and slams the ladder into his face.
Our next match is Viscera, Val Venis & Eugene versus Mikey, Kenny & Johnny. Vis and Mikey start the match, but Vis hits a side walk slam which puts him out. Eugene tags in and so does Kenny. Kenny hits a high back elbow and then tags in Johnny. Johnny hits Eugene several times in the face, imitates Michael Jackson and then nails him again. Mikey tags in and hits a backflip (with the assistance of Johnny). Mikey cannot stick the cover so Kenny tags in. Slam and elbow by Kenny. Johnny comes back in and kicks Eugene in the chest. Val tags in and clears house. Back body drop on Kenny and a clothesline. Spinebuster on Johnny and Val climbs the ropes for the Money Shot. However, Mikey jumps on the trampoline, launches himself on the apron and tosses Val off the ropes. The Spirit Squad get the win and then beat down Vis, Eugene and Val. The Spirit Squad leave all three men laying the ring as they perform a cheer on the ramp.
William “The Refrigerator” Perry will be inducted into the Hall of Fame by John Cena.
In a video of Mickie, we see her in a shrine with candles and photos of Trish surrounding her. Mickie says her new obsession is no longer Trish, but it’s now destroying Trish at WrestleMania. Backstage, Trish is shocked at the video she just saw. Torrie taps on her shoulder and Trish jumps. Torrie asks her if she’s ready for their match and Trish says yes as they both leave for the ring.
In the arena, WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus & Torrie Wilson take on Victoria & Candice Michelle. Victoria and Torrie start the match. Victoria clearly has control and hits a spinning sidewalk slam. Candice comes in and slams Torrie’s face into the mat. Victoria comes back in and Candice sits on the top rope. Candice is choking Torrie and Victoria jumps up and tries to splash Torrie, but Torrie moves and Victoria lands between Candice’s legs. Torrie is able to tag Trish in and Trish hits the Stratusphere on Candice, fights off Victoria and nails her with the Chick Kick. Candice breaks the cover and gives Victoria another chance. Torrie runs around the ring, grabs Candice and starts brawling with her on the outside. Back in the ring, Trish fights out of Victoria’s Widow’s Peak and pulls off Stratusfaction for the win.
In the main event of the night, Vince w/ HHH come to the ring. Vince pumps himself up by running around the ring before climbing in. HBK comes out next and then WWE Champion John Cena. Before the match starts, Vince says he wants it to be him vs Cena and no one else. So, Vince orders the ref to handcuff both HHH and HBK. HHH is handcuffed to the bottom rope of one side, while HBK is handcuffed on the opposite. The bell is rung and the match officially starts. The two lock up twice and both push off each other. They lock up a third time and McMahon puts Cena in a headlock. Cena fights out of it and pushes Vince to the mat. Vince is shocked and he is bleeding for the ear. Vince slaps Cena and they lock up again. Cena overpowers Vince so Vince kicks him in the balls. The ref rings the bell and Vince unlocks HHH. HHH pulls out the sledgehammer as HBK struggles to break free. Cena gets up and HHH nails him with the sledgehammer. Cena is busted open. HHH dangles the key in front of HBK as Vince holds a chair. HHH nails HBK in the gut with the sledgehammer and Vince follows with a chair shot. HBK is knocked out and bleeding from the forehead. Cena crawls over to HBK, but does not have enough strength to do anything. Both men bleed from the forehead as HHH and Vince celebrate.
That was one of the worst episodes of RAW I have ever seen. RAW absolutely, one hundred percent, without a doubt sucked a big one tonight. WWE did all the usual things to build up a PPV and they did it the wrong way.
Some notable exceptions. Kenny could be the next break out star. He’s an athletic wrestler with a fluid style. He needs more ring time. Other members of The Spirit Squad could be future stars too, but they need more wrestling time too.
Congrats on Torrie Wilson for showing a lot of intensity tonight. She’s not a great wrestler (I use that term loosely), but she showed a lot of anger and emotion towards Candice Michelle which made me pay attention. I hope she keeps it up.
The Master Lock challenge was pretty funny with Kane walking out of the closet while Big Show struggled to move the forklift. Little things like that really add to RAW.
Now the bad. Are Cade & Murdoch back together? What’s the deal? You push these two guys as the next big tag team and then cut it a few weeks later. And now they’re fighting alongside again? I’m not going to waste any more time thinking about this.
Where was the build up to Foley/Edge? Was that it? The segment was just getting started. Both Edge and Foley barely got into it and there was no big bump, serious scuffle or anything. Just Edge running off through the crowd. It would have been much better if the two fought to the back and nailed each other with weapons or something. Stupid, just stupid. There are much better ways to build up a match, especially a hardcore match.
Why didn’t Mickie James interfere in the women’s match tonight? The only build up was the Mickie Shrine video clip. It was a good idea, but Mickie and Trish didn’t even fight or have an encounter. What’s the deal?
Why was there a six man tag match on the RAW before WrestleMania? Does it set up another WrestleMania match? I’m sure this time slot could have been used a lot better.
There’s just too many “why’s” that need explanation.
And finally, the main event was the most awful piece of wrestling I have ever seen. It sucked so much. I cannot believe WWE even put this on television. HHH/Cena & HBK/Vince are too high-profile WrestleMania matches and I think WWE actually undid several weeks of build up.
And what the hell were the writers/Vince thinking? The main event was short, boring and cliche! We deserve better.
One word describes RAW tonight, GARBAGE! RAW WAS COMPLETE GARBAGE. Does WWE really expect fans to pay for WrestleMania after watching this crap?

I have to agree, I wasn’t very impressed with it either.
-Jake- I don’t understand how this was the last RAW before WM22. I mean, we’re talking about WrestleMania here, not a normal PPV. Thanks for the comment Jake.
This whole build up to Wrestlemania has seemed rather weak, along with the main events… this just doesn’t feel the way a Mania normally does. Maybe its just me, but I’m thinking of sitting this one out in favor of the dvd.
-Nathaniel- I’m with you on that one. The only thing I wanna see is Bret Hart inducted into the Hall of Fame. And that’s free.
Why spend all that money on WM22 now.
yeah last year was amazing batista vs hhh and cena vs jbl.
has anyone noticed that there is only one interpromo match there was 2 great interpromo matches HBK vs Angle and Taker vs Randy orton
i thought that i would eventually be able to see hogan vs stone cold that would have been a great match
I’m actually glad not to see a Hogan/Austin match at Mania. If Austin’s bad off and can’t put up the kind of match he used to then a Hogan/Austin match is better left a debated discussion between fans.
As far as the line up goes… I had heard earlier in the year the original main event was supposed to be Eddie vs. Batista, which would have been a bad ass main event.
The Cena/HHH match is intresting on paper but Cena’s not exactly a five star match kinda superstar. The triple threat match sounds intresting but not like a mania main event. I don’t know, maybe after the dust has settled mania would have been an amazing show… but right now I’m just not seeing it.
Why do you people always got to put raw or smackdown, it never fails their both real great ,monday night raw was great. the best part was when asshole Cena got his punk ass kicked and he will sunday too. so stop putting everything down ok wake up and get real.
HOW WAS RAW ANY DIFFERENT FROM ANY OF THE PAST RAWS’? IT WASNT….SAME BULLSHIT, SAME SHOW. VINCE SCREWS HBK AND CENA OVER, HBK BLEEDS FOR THE 50TH TIME THIS MONTH, AND HHH GETS THE SPOTLIGHT AGAIN. FUCKING BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I agree with those who say Raw sucked.
First off, I almost forgot there was a MITB ladder match at Wrestlemania. I think the writers did, too, because it was like they just threw that segment together at the last minute. I love Shelton’s ability in the ring, but boy he has to work on his mic skills.
And how stupid is it that HBK agreed to be handcuffed to the ring? That’s a little TOO unbelieveable.
I know Matt B didn’t care for the way the Foley/Edge segment ended, but I’ll say this: it was better than the rest of the crap that ended the show!
Oh and Matt, I was wondering the same thing about Cade and Murdoch. If you check out PW Insider’s raw recap from a fan who attended the show, he said that it was funny that Murdoch was still wearing his tights from their tag team. I think they really are back together.
My question is, why did they help Carlito and Masters? It’s like they threw back together an old heel tag team just to have someone to help Carlito and Masters.
-Lex- I completely forgot to comment about the MITB match in the report. That just proves your point of people forgetting about it.
Maybe I was too harsh about the Edge/Foley segment. I think it would be better to describe it as anti-climatic. It started off well and when it ended I was like, “Is that how it’s going to end?” Compared to everything else on RAW, the Foley/Edge build up was the only one that contained logic. The segment between Edge and Foley at Saturday Night’s Main Event would have been better way to end it with the table on fire.
-Everyone- WrestleMania is the biggest PPV of the year. Fans know it and so does WWE. I expected a lot more from RAW last night and just thinking about the show makes me want to break something.
Matt B–
Yeah, I know what you mean about it being anti-climatic. He had a barbed wire bat…so why not HIT him with it?
I did think Foley’s promo was awesome though. My question is, is he Cactus Jack or is he Mick Foley? They can’t even decide which music to play…
-Lex- I was thinking it symbolized the transformation to Cactus Jack. Foley brings out a barbed wire bat, the video package is played, Foley is in the corner of the ring rocking back and forth. And finally, the Cactus Jack music plays.
I could be wrong, but I just took it as Foley reverting back to Cactus Jack. The fact that we’re debating this just shows that WWE didn’t do a good job anyway because everyone is confused about it, including me.
OK everybody, it’s dumb question time.
What would you have LIKED to have seen on this week’s episode of Raw? I think they did a good job keeping the stress off of the wrestlers to keep the probability of injuries low while keeping the angles together. Who would have really wanted to see Mick break his arm from a big bump so that the whole match could go down the drain for ‘mania? HBK bleeding is nothing new, Cena bleeding is nothing new…The episode was totally UN-original. Fine. But, Vince didn’t risk any injuries that will take away from ‘mania.
For you that are being harsh, last year was about the same. Like you say Matt B, ‘Mania isn’t a typical PPV; its THE PPV of the year. Why risk having anyone injured???
All in all, it may have been a very mediocre episode, but I am all set to order and watch Wrestlemania 22 this Sunday.
Screw all you haters. This episode was to keep the viewers picked up from Saturday Night’s Main Event. Compare SNME to Raw this week and there will be some astounding parallels. I don’t expect SD! to be any more illuminating.
WRESTLEMANIA 22 is what I am all about this weekend. No one can ruin it for me and I will not let a sub-par episode of RAW or SD! kill my excitement.
-lillian- Thanks for taking the defensive here.
-MattDaddy- What would I have liked to see on RAW? Welll….
-Carlito/Masters vs Show/Kane got some solid build up. But I think the actual wrestling match should have been cut down to save time. Also, get rid of Murdoch/Cade or at least explain why they’re there. But who knows, maybe WWE is setting up something for Mania?
-The beginning of Edge/Foley was great with the exchange of words. The ending should have been changed to something more hardcore than swinging bats. Foley not taking a bump is fine, but something else should have been done.
-The six man tag match shouln’t have happened. Yes, it did give some actual wrestling to the show, but they could have cut the time down and put it somewhere else.
-Mickie and Trish should have had a face off or brawl at the very least.
-The main event should have been re-written. It was boring and short. The handcuff thing was a bad idea, but I think HHH/Cena should have had a quick exchange of blows w/o the sledgehammer. And, I think HBK should have superkicked Vince and then have HHH beat on HBK. The only good part of the whole thing was having the bad guys come out on top. It’s cliche, but I still think it works. Everything else about the main event just makes me mad.
————————————————-
Not a dumb question at all. You make a damn good argument.
Not putting wrestlers in jeopardy is a good point, but wrestlers can be injured even by the simplest moves. In fact, McMahon stepping into the ring before WM should be a huge risk because last time he ended up in a wheelchair just by stepping through the ropes. His muscles (or something) gave way just by stepping through the ropes and now on RAW he’s exerting all his strength against Cena? That seems like a risk to me. But besides that, keeping your wrestlers safe is a smart bet, but I think in this case it hurt them.
After RAW this Monday, I was ready to skip WrestleMania. But after calming down I now feel different. You’re right, one episode of RAW shouldn’t spoil WM22 and it hasn’t now that I’ve thought about it. I didn’t intend to spoil WM weekend for anyone and apologize if I did. But I still stand by what I said about RAW.
Many matches still have their appeal especially Money in the Bank. Plus, it’s freakin’ WrestleMania and how could you pass that up?
You’re right MattDaddy, one sub-par episode of RAW shouldn’t take away from the biggest PPV of the year.
