NEWS: |WWE| Ashley has signed a three year contract extension. Her original contract since winning the Diva Search is almost over and this new contract will kick in right after. In the interview she says she’s very excited about the new contract. Her leg is healing properly and she says she wants to move past the Diva Search and be a serious female wrestler in the future.
Well that’s great news for Ashley, but I would still be worried if I was her. Just because she signed a new contract doesn’t mean she’ll be there for the full three years…or even one year. Just ask Christy Hemme. She signed a new deal and was let go months later.
It’s a pessimistic outlook for her, but I do think she has a bright future and can contribute greatly to WWE.
I hate to say this, but I think many of the Divas are let go because the male fans grow tired of them.
Let’s be honest–most of them aren’t very good wrestlers and are there as “eye candy.” Men want to see hot women, but they also want to see different hot women, so I think that’s part of the reason why WWE drops divas so frequently.
Of course, there are those who have had staying power–Trish, Lita, Torrie Wilson, Stacy and maybe Candace, but they all have very unique looks…
There’s a lot of truth in what you said. Personally, I wish it was different. Lita and Trish put on a great match when they main eventer RAW several months back. That match opened my eyes a bit and I saw how good women’s matches could be.
It would be great if they let Lita start wrestling again. She’s far and away the best on the roster, even though Trish has trained a lot and become a great wrestler.
Yeah I wouldnt be surprised if she was let go. The only person SAFE to say and do what he wants without fear of ever being RELEASED HHH. I think personaly Christy had more spunk, and better in ring talent after a year than Ashley does after her year of development. But u never you never know. Trish has set the bar for women wrestlers. She is very smooth and good in the ring, and connects with the fans very good. But I would say Mickie James is second behind trish in the talent field…….
-Ray- Mickie is pretty good, but her character is better than her actual wrestling. Victoria is a great wrestler, but her character (does she have one?) cannot match Mickie James.
I would hope WWE put a lot more thought before offering Ashley a 3 year extension. But like you said, you never know.
It would be nice if it were that easy, but they let go Nidia and Christy Hemme, who might not have been ready yet, but actually looked like they were trying to get better. They let go Gail Kim and let Molly Holly get away. They also have Lidia playing second fiddle to Edge. Meanwhile Victoria is playing kissie, kissie with Miss Big Breasts.
There is no rhyme or reason for how they are handling their Divas.
I think Ashley has job security because the WWE is in such a talent crunch. At this rate they’ll start having to find real female wrestlers instead of “Divas”.
