Family Reunion on RAW
Posted on December 7th, 2005 by Matt B
NEWS: |PWInsider| WWE is going to introduce a new character on RAW, Shelton Benjamin’s mother. WWE sent out a casting call for a 50 year old, heavy set, African-American woman. Based on this, Shelton’s mom is expected to be involved for 3 to 6 months.
I’m glad to hear this. You wanna know why? Because it means Shelton will have more time on RAW. Does he deserve it? I’m not so sure. We all know Shelton needs to step up a bit if he wants to be a major player in the company, but he hasn’t done so. HBK’s advice to Shelton on RAW is no coincidence, it’s exactly what WWE wants out of Shelton. I hope this will be a break-out storyline for him.

Wow. Sounds awful. If you want Shelton’s mom on the show, why not just get his mom? Sheesh.
Wow this plot is so great! Raw really needs a plot like this rather than wrestling! Its a great way to spend air time. Im sure they could find the right woman off of “As The World Turns”. Man Im so excited about this. But im sure some other Jackass who visits this website is already jumping up and down on their bed! Cause they are a dumbass moran who doesnt know where to draw the line between sports entertainment and a fucking stupid night time soap!
Thats exactly it, WE DONT NEED ANY MOMS ON THE SHOW,OR DOGS OR HALF SISTERS, WHAT THE F***! ID RATHER SEE SHELTON AND HBK BEAT THE SHIT OUTA EACH OTHER FOR 15 MINUTES, CHRIST! THIS SHIT IS CRAZY! OK WE KNOW KNOW ITS FAKE, AND STAGED SO WHY DO WE NEED TO TRY TO CONVINCE PEOPLE THAT ITS HIS REAL MOM AND BLAH BLAH BLAH. JUST STICK WITH WRASTLIN! AND WE WONDER WHY WRESTLING IS CONSIDERED A REDNECK JOKE BY MOST PEOPLE. I LOVE WRESTLING! BUT THIS SHIT GIVES IT A STUPID IMAGE! ENOUGH SAID!
-Ray- I hear ya Ray. If Shelton Benjamin comes out of this as a better, more intense wrestler than I think I can put up with this. Otherwise, I might be a bit mad.
Ray apparently still doesn’t understand that storylines are fundamental to wrestling. If wrestling groups just randomly stuck wrestlers in the ring together then no one would be watching.
That said, this still sounds like a bad idea.
Hadley still doesnt understand that we dont need someones fake mom on the show to have a good match or start a feud between two people. I understand storylines are important, but your telling me they couldnt think of anything better than his fucking mom. I think you should join the Kiss My Ass Club storyline!
Obviously Hadley is not watching wrestling too well because they randomly stick wrestlers in the ring every week and there is not stupid storyline behind it and most of the time the match is entertaining. NOT EVERYTHING needs a storyline you retard. They waste enough time talking, if everthing had a storyline the shows would be 10 hours long and put most people too sleep. So maybe you should learn more about the sport beofore you go SPOUTING off out your mouth, I mean ass. And it doesnt matter what they put on TV a select group of true fans will still watch like a religion.
“but your [sic] telling me they couldnt [sic] think of anything better than his fucking mom.”
I suggest you reread the first message in this thread, and this time try to understand it.
“Obviously Hadley is not watching wrestling too well because they randomly stick wrestlers in the ring every week and there is not stupid storyline behind it”
Actually, there usually is. But the larger point, which you are apparently too stupid or immature to comprehend, is that to build a money match you have to give the fans a reason to care why two wrestlers are fighting - why they should cheer one guy, why it matters when someone loses. That’s the purpose of RAW and Smackdown. The payoff comes on the PPV, or in an earlier era, live shows.
If you want to talk about what gives wrestling a bad reputation, it’s childish rants like yours which portray all wrestling fans as IQ-challenged jackasses.
You both make good points. Finding that balance between storyline build up and actual wrestling cannot be an easy thing to do. Especially when certain types of fans favor one side over the other.
I think that’s a big reason why TNA is successful. They focus more on wrestling matches, though that’s been debatable lately. The fans who wanna get back to the pure wrestling action love TNA. I know I do. But I also like the storyline build up that WWE does. They take their build ups to a whole new level which is a big reason why I love Undertaker’s segments.
But I’m getting way off topic….it’s good to know that both of you have strong feelings about this aspect of wrestling. It makes this website a better place.
What the hell ever , you are a piece of shit. I think your are stuck on the wrong issues. Its called WWE wrestling not “As the WWE turns”. Gte your head out of your ass and just go watch days becuse wrestling wasnt always so stuck on storylines or plots. It started as wrestling and grew INTO a sideshow! There have always been storylines but they didnt make the whole show into a circus like they do now so fuck off.
Thanks Matt, I agree TNA does focus more on WRESTLING not as much storylines. But Hadley doesnt understand that not everymatch every show can be a money match or has to be a money match. You build up certain storylines and rivalrys they then turn into main events, not every match can or has to be a main event build up, they are just matches to fill the show! So if its not a main event type match quit trying to attach a reason why the wrestlers are fighting. Thats what they do, they wrestle each other they dont always have to have there dads or moms on the show, or killing someones baby or trying to take someone elses kid to build up a match. Maybe you should start a wrestling business that shows durring the afternoon and is convinent for stay at home moms to watch. Peace out Matt
Thanks for proving my point, Ray. Shouldn’t you be getting some sleep? They start fifth grade early in the morning - wouldn’t want you to be cranky.
“I think that’s a big reason why TNA is successful.”
Define successful. They’ve lost millions of dollars and their current weekly rating has yet to crack 1.0 on Spike.
“The fans who wanna get back to the pure wrestling action love TNA.”
The fans who think lukewarm lucha libre style wrestling love TNA. Those of us who like believability, ring psychology, and actual wrestling rather than acrobatics and no-selling don’t care for TNA quite as much.
“But Hadley doesnt understand that not everymatch every show can be a money match or has to be a money match. ”
I don’t have to understand that because I never claimed that. However, if you want a wrestler to be a success, he has to make money and to make money the fans need to care about what he is fighting for. This idea with Benjamin’s mom could work if it was believable, the same way Michaels bringing his mentor Jose Lethario with him and the way the Hart parents were involved with the Bret-Owen feud worked, but not if WWE uses an actress.
In future, if you want to continue to contribute to these conversations, try to keep the level of discourse at least slightly above the obnoxious nonsense you’ve been posting. It would be doing everyone else a favor.
Like I said before, I agree with both of you.
I am not taking sides and ganging up on you Hadley. I said that I like both WWE and TNA. They both have different approaches to wrestling which is why I try to watch both and more importantly, which is why I enjoy both. I wanna make that very clear.
Yes TNA is successful and describing its entire style of wrestling as “lukewarm lucha libre” is very inaccurate.
I’m glad you feel strongly about this Ray, but Hadley is entitled to his opinion just as much as you are.
Your right Hadley I am immature and obnoxious but trust me I can afford to be. So theres really no point to argue with you anymore, I like “Wrestling” and you like “General Hospital”. So we like different things. And you are right I have to get up early to catch the bus for the fifth grade because if i miss the bus and your MOM drops me off late again I miss recess tomorrow. And then your mom might spank me like Eugene spanks people in the ring when he rides them. Thanks for being cool Matt I respect your very accurate opinion on all topics.
Well before I pack my lunch and climb into my race car bunk bed I have something else to say. I have a perfect storyline. They should get together all the people past and present that have anger management and drinking problems including Ric FLair as the teacher and they can have like a support group on Raw everynight like AA classes. That would be a great waste of time but very entertaining. Whatcha think Matt?
Haha…I should really use that in one of my commentaries.
Speaking of Flair, I hope all his legal problems don’t screw up future storylines. I wanna see him back soon.
Ray, remember when HHH had that segment explaining why he turned on Flair after their tag match on RAW? What did you think of that segment when HHH gave his explanation the following week on RAW?
“Yes TNA is successful and describing its entire style of wrestling as “lukewarm lucha libre” is very inaccurate.”
I ask again, by what measure is TNA successful? As of yet they are not a business success. They have never made money. That may change if they manage to stay in business a few more years, but at this point they are not a successful business by any measurable standard.
As for their style, I’d say “lukewarm lucha libre” captures it more or less exactly - at least in the “X Division.” Obviously Jeff Jarrett is still doing his classic mid South / Tennessee style wrestling, but that’s not what I was referring to. The X Division matches are highspot oriented, have little to no ring psychology, promote acrobatics over believability, and are often team matches rather than one on one. All of this comes DIRECTLY from Mexican lucha libre.
Now that’s fine if you like it, but it’s only one style of professional wrestling. TNA has yet to demonstrate any really great matches in any other style. Now, considering the fact that that’s the one style of wrestling that WWE ignores for a variety of reasons, TNA might at some point find a niche and make the X Division profitable. But that remains to be seen.
“So theres really no point to argue with you anymore, I like “Wrestling” and you like “General Hospital”.”
It’s clear from your posts you don’t even understand professional wrestling.
As for what I like, I could name dozens of great wrestling matches and wrestlers you’ve probably never even heard of.
-Hadley- Very good points. X Division matches do have little ring psychology, they have some, but not a lot. Certainly not a Bret Hart match. With that said, I still like watching it.
Financially, TNA is not successful, but they’ve been successful in capturing a wrestling audience and they’ve been slowly building a fan base. I think that’s successful in itself.
